The First Americans and the Debra L. Friedkin Site, Texas

For over 100 years, archeologists have been working to understand when people first arrived in the Americas. They have also been working to understand the origins of the first Americans and the paths they took to the New World. For many decades, Clovis was considered to be the oldest human occupation of the Americas. But decades of research, especially new archeological and genetic evidence published in the last 15 years, has rewritten our understanding of the first Americans. Much has been learned about the earliest inhabitants of the Americas from the Debra L. Friedkin and Gault sites along Buttermilk Creek in Central Texas. In this presentation, Dr. Michael R. Waters discusses these sites in the context of the early archeological record of North America.
