Can you post a list of bills that have been passed negatively affecting recreational fishing so we can look up if our House and Senate Representatives supported those bills

There haven't been a significant amount of them passed. Even mandatory reporting wasn't NCFA pushing it through alone. The primary issues that have led us to this point are the 1997 fisheries reform act and the appointment of people sitting on the MFC. I'll make videos covering each in detail pretty soon.

Loving the content, lots of issues to bring to light! Just letting you know, the flounder discussion was listed on the agenda under the 9:45am chairman's report "Discussion on 2024 Recreational Flounder Season." Of course this didn't get attention because it wasn't an action item that needed voting since the paybacks are mandated in Amendment 2. So it feels like a surprise for some but if you follow fisheries management you knew about the payback mandates and the 2023 overages. The issue here is not enough fish for recreational anglers, next year's reallocation will help some but its still not where we need it for a decent season.

Thank you! I did not see it on the agenda. Ultimately, it would not have changed the outcome of that meeting if we'd brought it to light. It would have only served to create a circus. I always hold on to some hope that a reasonable appeal to the comm seats might swing them though so I would have liked to deliver comment beforehand.

@@FishingwithBrewski for sure, public comment is always highly effective! Hopefully the commercial side sees this impact this is going to have on the coastal economy. It’s not just catching fish but people renting hotel rooms, restaurants, tackle shops, gas stations, etc. I’m beyond ready for us to come together and rebuild the fisheries. NCFA does not see the bigger picture in my personal opinion

I appreciate what you are doing. I’ve been watching your videos for a while. I’m a Virginia resident but always head down to southern NC. Love fishing and flounder especially. Actually have taken a weeks gradation the last couple of years to line up with the limited season. How can that are out of state help? Thanks again

I would love to help address some of the issue in VA eventually as well. I've heard about the pogie boats up there a lot. You can help in the same way the locals can help. You contribute to the state and should have a voice too. A mass of emails is just designed to get enough attention so that I can sit down with these reps and tell our story. I don't intend to try and change the political landscape as this isn't a party related issue. I do intend to change the way the reps think of how our fisheries are being managed.

My God what is the problem with regulation of catching flounder putting a good size of flounder of releases of larger fish they are the breeders please put a slot size on flounder fishing in N.C.

Flounder is a weird one with respect to a slot size. Male flounder rarely get bigger than 12". So basically, all of the fish we kill are female. Not sure which year class is doing the majority of the work. Don't think we have good data on that because we know so little about their spawn location, duration, etc.
