You know, that's a very valid point. The reason thks death is so stupid isn't because he jumped off the Eiffel tower in an unproven parachute, but because he did it with zero safety precautions! Like the only way he survives is if this parachute is a functional design and works perfectly. If there was a flaw in the design or even just if it didn't properly deploy he dies. I suppose the line between being a daredevil and an idiot is really just if you have something ready to save you if things go wrong.

So, interestingly enough, this happened a second time, kind of. There was a guy nicknamed "Americas First Bat-Man" because his wingsuit was modeled after batwings. I found some info about an earlier recorded death that still exists in some capacity today! _An Execution by Hanging_ was filmed on July 6, 1898, and it depicted the execution of a man named Edward Heinson.
