in the summer of 2010 two Herring gulls built a nest on the roof of our neighbours house. We watched in amazment as they hatched their chicks and we watched them grow over the coming weeks until the finally learnt to fly.

Great film. We've had three born on our roof this summer too. One fell off the roof last week and we had the whole "seagull nation" as i call it flying around our large front garden keeping an eye on it. Worried abut foxes we eventually (against the advice of local bird group i may add) popped it back on our patio roof from where it managed to reach its family again. Sweet thing almost seemed thankful. Its parents made a hell of a racket for ages . All quiet now and just waiting for them to fledge. The 'seagull triplets' are almost ready to fly. Amazing long lived birds and very intelligent. Very misunderstood by humans. They're not vermin but avian sentient beings who have amazing caring abilities fo r their young . Also amazed to read that their numbers have decreased by 50% in twenty years!. Brilliant film . Thanks

Thanks to this video I’ve found out the grounded baby outside my building is about 4 or 5 weeks old… so hopefully it starts to fly soon as it’s managed to survive on the floor for about a week now. Mainly just so I don’t get swooped down upon by the parents every time I leave.

Gulls nest on my roof sometimes. It is a nuisance because they don't like me going into the garden to water my plants and pick raspberries. One chick fell off the roof yesterday and got injured so I took it to a wildlife centre but they hate me even more now! I stole their baby! I think it was a bit too small though I don't know if it was developing properly or if it was just late hatching compared to the chicks I see on the roof across the way. I get my binoculars and I can count the chicks and watch them learning to fly.

Thanks for posting this. I found your video because I’ve just rescued a chick that fell out of its nest, and I anted to know what to expect. Unfortunately , I had to remove her from the ground because my neighbourhood is overrun with feral cats, and the chick wouldn’t have survived the night. From your video, I reckon she/he is about 2-3 weeks old. I’m in touch with a gull rescue charity, who are telling me how to care for the chick until she can go to their sanctuary. Thanks again for your interesting and instructive video.

@@firegator6853 @Lord Freeza @Lord Freeza Yeah :) 4days ago he convinced us that he could fly and that he is strong enough so, we took him where we found him at the first place. He flew. 2 days after this (yesterday), I was eating lunch, and from nowhere, he landed on my balcony and entered my living room. I swear to God. He had a hurt leg, but now he is better, bc he is resting and his leg is better. He came to heal probably... I really do not know how he could come back, exatcly on his balcony and floor/flat. I really dont, and we are in the building in an appartment. Yes, we rised him on the balcony :D , but man... There are numerous buildings arround me and they look all the same, and he could still know :) Like wtfff... :) I think that we let him go a week or two to early, he was exausted when he came back... We will hold him again now until he leave from the balcony byhim-self. A very very weird Sea-Gull :)

we've had a female gull here for some years, we feed her all year but she's demanding more right now, usually she has one fledgling but last August she had 2, some are quicker and leave straight away but sometimes a backwards type stays for many months, asking endlessly to be fed, what do we give? my friend gives scraps and cat food, I also give sachets of cat food, she taps on the cat flap when she needs more!
