Sheffield FC never embraced the commercialism that most professional clubs have. The club was never designed that way. Plus, the formation of United and Wednesday in the late 19th Century immediately became more popular as they challenged the very best for honours in the professional game at the time.

before Hallam FC were established there were enough members at Sheffield FC to form a couple of teams so they would played against each other then they started receiving invitations from other cricket clubs around the country who had also form a football team to play a game so they did as at the time there was no league structure or national organisation to pull it all together,its only when the FA was formed in 1863 and a definite codes of rules was written then we see the first shoots of the game of football as we know it appearing,Between 1873 and the forming of my team Sheffield United in 1889,Sheffield FC listed Bramall Lane as their primary ground

1497 King James VI of Scotland asked to buy a bag of fut-ballis for some shillings! 50 odd years later Mary Queen of Scots while in hiding at Carlisle Castle was watching men play Fut-ball. Who knows just how old football is but Scotlands claim to creating the game is old, as is our Neighbour Englands claim to being the country that created the game, but 1497 is pretty old! The FA cup competition is 2 years older than the Scottish cup competition that much I know when it comes to Major old trophies....England probably heard Scotland were creating a cup competition to be held in 1873 and had a cup made in 1870 but needed time to finalise the competition, so the English announced it 2 years earlier than the Scots and had the cup made in 1871 and held it the same year...the usual English tactics! Lol 🤣✌
