I remember in a Q&A forever ago someone asked how to get started making videos. And you said to “Just start making stuff.” I did that and let me tell you. In 3 months I’ve garnered an audience of over 300 people. So even though it’s late, thank you for that advice ❤ Edit: Wow, so a lot of people showed up in support! I really appreciate that. So if you do show up and watch something, or even just leave a comment, thank you.

My first game was Combat on the 2600 at somebody's house. I was born in 1974. I was 6 or 7. You can not imagine just how in awe I was at being able to PLAY on a TV. And it had SO MANY MODES. I received a Colecovision for xmas -- maybe 1982? Or 1983? So the first game I ever played at home was Donkey Kong for Coleco. And, luckily, they also made the Expansion Module which let me play 2600 games too. And with the video game crash my father was picking up games from bins every week. The only game my father (born in 1942) ever played in his entire life (he passed in 2021) was Dragster on the 2600 -- and he was the best at it. He equaled the best time that was published in an early gaming magazine of the time. I don't think I really LOVED videogames until the NES though. Metroid, Zelda, SMB, Mega Man, Castlevania -- the usual suspects in those first couple of years, but also Shadowgate, Nobunaga's Ambition, Final Fantasy, etc. Incidentally, I was obviously older when that X-Men fighting game came out but I have a particular memory of playing that at an arcade one night with a buddy of mine and this dude walked up and challenged me -- and I wiped the floor with him. That was a cool game!

My first gaming experience was a cross between playing a Super Nintendo in my grandparents basement and a Playstation my dad bought for us. I can remember playing Super Mario, Battleship, Mortal Combat 2, Street Fighter 2, Terminator 2, Super Star Wars the Empire Strikes Back, and some off road racing game. On Playstation there was Crash Bandicoot 1 & 2, Need for Speed hot pursuit, Road Rage, Tomb Raider 2, Spyro, Syphon Filter, and maybe a half dozen others. Also had a disc that had a bunch of demos on it for other games. Then I got a portable Playstation for my birthday I got Medal of Honor as my first game for it. Also played Incoming!, a few of 3DOs Army Men games, a game where you played as model airplanes from WW2 that was cool, and some other miscellaneous ones on PC for a short while. Miss those simple days.

How do you feel about how negative the gaming community has become? 7/10s being the worst game ever, culture wars, etc. I make it a habit to not fully trash talk a game I've never played. But it seems like people take one look at a trailer or review and decide a game is the most awful game ever, the devs are losing their touch, etc. I really love gaming and want to have more positive conversations but seems like the negativity is all I hear these days.

My dad was and still is obsessed with Atari (from back in the day) and he got the 2600 for all of us to enjoy together, the first game I ever played was Smurf, Rescue from Gargamel’s Castle. I had watched my dad play some shooters on PlayStation 2 but the game that really showed me the potential of gaming was Spider-Man 2. Technically I played the first one as well but didn't get as into it as I got into Spider-Man 2. Such a great game! I also remember my Mom letting me get my first T rated game which was Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I was so nervous she was going to see something she didn't think was appropriate and not let me play it but after the opening scene where Nick Fury says "what the hell" and I sheepishly looked at her, she just gives me a look and smiles as if I had gone through a rite of passage! Such fond memories of those games. Do you think they'd ever revive that series? If they do I have a feeling it would be a live service game, which I wouldn't entirely be against.

Yoo it's Jake with the pizza!! My question is... do you think reviewing games and comparing them to another does a disservice to the game? For example, seeing a lot of comparisons of AC Shadows to GoT before the game is even out. I didn't see this much comparison when it came to Rise of the Ronin which arguably has more in common with an AC game, especially as it pertains to it's loot and it's combat. GoT was never a stealth game, and doesn't have melee combat that is focused on skills/abilities that reset after they cooldown. I feel like people are ready to compare the games side by side, and on one hand I get why, but also I feel like it's not very fair to either game. Idk, that's my ramble. Onions are the best pizza topping.
