96/97 I was around 8-9 years old, was in the video store with my brother and dad. I stumbled across the video, begged my dad to buy it for us and thankfully he did - my brother and I would have watched that movie about 50 times it was awesome. It was the uncut version too which was even better, I still have it somewhere at home to this day.

I was 7 or 6 watching the uncut version (I think) from a shady local video store near us. I remember being shocked when Cammy jumped and snapped that dudes neck completely around. I was use to animation like Aladdin and Ninja Turtles, and that was awesome. l also really liked Cammy for reasons I didn't truly understand until I hit puberty.

Street Fighter The Animated Movie( aka the OVA) is still one of the best! The character designs, music( US Version) and PHENOMENAL FIGHTS are still adored by fans/ non fans alike! Chunli vs Vega is arguably one of the very best Fights ever captured in animation and in general!
@LowellLucasJr.2 жыл бұрын
I still remember when the movie was still being shown on Cinemax late on Saturday in 96. I was Channel surfing and caught Dhalisim and Honda's fight and was hooked on the animation! Some friends came by and we were instantly drawn to the fantastic fights and a very sexy Chunli!

Just a heads up, The Animated Movie was to help popularized the upcoming live action movie( which we all know how that went). You can see it credited in the Japanese version of the movie which is luckily still available thanks to Discotek and some Manga Video editions still available.

If they ever decide to make a Street Fighter One movie (as in the original game) who should be casted as Ryu Ken Retsu Geki Joe Mike Lee Gen Birdie Eagle Adon Sagat and yes I know it will probably never happen. But it would be cool.
@mrsticky0052 жыл бұрын
Here is how I think the plot of a Street Fighter One should be done. Although I am not a Street Fighter lore expert so if you have suggestions on how you think the movie should be then I like to hear them. The movie would be predominately based off the original Street Fighter game but would also borrow from other games in the series as well. The movie starts off with Teen Ryu vs Teen Ken Masters as they train under Master Gouken. Ken comes to disagree with Master Gouken and so Ken and Ryu go their separate ways. Many years later Ryu is an adult and there is news of a World Wide Martial Arts Tournament in which a mysterious financer has promised 100 billion dollars to the winner. Ryu is interested. Not so much about the money. But because he knows that Ken will be there. Eternal rivals and all that good stuff. In order to qualify for the tournament you must pass the Preliminary Exam: Find an exam proctor who has a head band with a special insignia and take their head and their briefcase with a million dollars and a cell phone Then use the cell phone. The cell phone can only call one number and traces your location (although that last part will be left out of the official rules.) Ryu defeats the Exam Proctor (who might be a robot. Not sure yet) and use the cell phone. He then wakes up to find himself surrounded by people who also have the same special insignia as the head band. Ryu knows something is very fishy and decides to return the brief case and money. However one of the people tells Ryu that Ken will be there. Instant motivation. At the same time that Ken passes the Preliminary Exams we will see a few other characters pass the Preliminary Exams including some from later games. There will be an international investigation by INTERPOL or something of the Tournament and the Mysterious Financier. There will be 24 Qualified Fighters who each fight in regional tournaments. The money in the brief case is used for the purpose of flying the 24 Qualified Fighters to the location of each regional tournament. Round 1 1. Ryu vs Retsu (Japan) Winner Ryu 2. Mike vs Joe (United States) Winner Mike 3. Geki vs Gen (China) Winner Gen 4. Ken vs T Hawk (Mexico) Winner Ken 5. Chun Li vs Fei Long (Hong Kong) Winner Fei Long 6 Birdie vs Eagle (England) Winner Eagle 7. Sagat vs Adon (Thailand) Winner Sagat 8. Lee vs Juri Han (South Korea) Winner Juri Han 9. Guile vs Abigal (Canada) Winner Guile 10. Lita Luwanda vs Santamu (Ethiopia) Winner Lita Luwanda 11. Black Widow vs Hugo (Germany) Winner Hugo 12. Zangeif vs Cammy (Russia) Winner Cammy Round 2 1. Ryu vs Eagle Winner Ryu 2. Fei Long vs Guile Winner Guile 3. Ken vs Lita Luwanda Winner Ken 4. Sagat vs Juri Han Winner Sagat 5. Gen vs Mike Winner Mike 6. Hugo vs Cammy Winner Hugo Round 3 1. Ryu vs Hugo Winner Ryu 2. Guile vs Ken Winner Ken 3. Mike vs Sagat Winner Sagat Round 4 Final is a Battle Royal Ryu vs Ken vs Sagat Winner Ken After the final fight Ryu congrats Ken on his win. But Ken feels like Ryu wasn't really giving it his all. Ryu says that is nonsense and that Ken completely defeated him. Ken gives most of the championship money to Mike but keeps a little for his wedding to Eliza. Part of the reason Ryu lost was because he saw Akuma watching the fight. So Ryu goes to chase after Akuma. The money ends up being counterfeit and Mike almost goes to jail but Guile vouches for him that Mike is a good guy. In exchange Mike tells Guile some important information he once overheard while he was in prison concerning a Charlie Nash who Guile thought was dead The Final Scene will be of Sagat pissed off that he lost and demanding he be given the champion money but then the Mysterious Financier appears and says the money was never real in the first place. Sagat tries to attack Financier promises Sagat the power to defeat Ryu in exchange for his loyalty ] It is then revealed that the Mysterious Financier was M. Bison all along!! Cue Sequel

Much of Street Fighter The Animated scenes, nods and backgrounds can be seen in Alpha 2, Gold and Alpha 3! It was a huge impact on the franchise! Sagat vs Ryu plains battle is an exclusive stage, the Dramatic Battle mode in Alpha 1( and again in Alpha 3) were inspired by Ryu/Ken vs Bison, Sagat's Scar lights up before fighting Ryu and even Chunli/ Vega share an exchange!
@DragoEpyon2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't go that far. This movie looks good and the fight scenes are great, but that's about it. The plot would make a good episode of a Saturday morning cartoon, and there's a whole lot of 'here's this character just because we had to squeeze them in'. And, like anything Street Fighter related that focuses on a story, it really illustrates just how far removed Ryu is from the actual plot of the games and how much of a non character he is. At least when Akuma and Sakura got added he actually had something to do other than wander around and get into random fights.

Honestly, this Street Fighter II anime Almost feels like the kind of animated movie Mortal Kombat could've and should have gotten too. Since this movie is a lot more darker, mature, and even a bit bloody. PS Ryan: since you liked this SF movie, you should also check out the old Darkstalker OVAs too. Since that's based another fighting game by capcom.

I kinda disagree with you your take on the shower scene. The way I see it, is that it's not just there for obvious fan service but also to set the mood and built tension (which was done perfectly imo). Very similiar to that famous shower scene in Psycho. That's also the moment where Chun Li is at her most vulnerable.

One of the few anime movies that I absolutely swear by the English dub/soundtrack. There's no contest- the Japanese version is so lifeless compared to the English version.

I definitely feel you on the old dub soundtrack mixes, those were so cool. I love the original soundtracks to, but sometimes I feel the dub soundtracks (and sometimes the dub in general) just appealed more to me. Yuyu hakusho is definitely an anime I like in Dub over Sub. I especially remember every dbz movie having such awesome metal music for fights and transformations, absolutely insane when I was a kid (and adult now) and got me into metal.

I have watched it but I do not remember everything in the film. I do recall enjoying it. I was even able to get a copy of the Japanese artbook that shows all the character models and set designs. This book is long out of print and expensive as hell to buy. I miss the hyper-masculine and hyper-feminine designs of 90's anime. I want to see it again. In moderation of course.

There is too much about both the U.S. movie and the anime film, but there is something people from the States do not take into account and it is that some characters like Guile are played by a guy from Belgium or Superman is played by some british but the antinationalism ever present in the younger commie indoctrinated brutes never realizes that, I actually find that the extra focus on Ryu while spiritually interesting is not as well placed as Guile who is an antiterrorist, or Juri who has a personal vendetta against him, check Street Fighter V storyline to understand that the focus on Ryu is stupid while Nash is back, Guile looks a lot better facing a criminal as Bison, on the other hand Akuma fits Ryu's path so why is it so hard to understand that both approaches are valid and that some enemies look better against certain characters? Gill being taken by Alex is equally valid to being defeated by Ryu or Ken.
