Dumbarton Football Club are one of the oldest football clubs in Scotland. They have an amazing history.
Although they currently play in Scotland's League 1 (third tier of football), they were the first champions of the Scottish Football League.... and the second champions too!
In this video I basically had the stadium to myself.... so consider this a self guided stadium tour! What a day!

The town is so historically significant that it’s mentioned in the Irish Chronicles and the Viking Sagas It’s been involved in deciding the kings and queens of Scotland for 1,000 years

I’ll never forget the last day at Boghead We played East Fife (next weekends opponents) on May 6th, 2000 and won 2-1 with goals from Toby King and Joe Robertson. Must’ve been 3,000 people there that day One thing that doesn’t get mentioned about Dumbarton is they appeared with Robert Duvall and Michael Keaton in the film A Shot At Glory where Ally McCoist, and this is true, plays a Celtic legend playing for a team called Kilnockie. It’s worth watching, firstly, to see they change in hue to make Ally McCoist scoring for Rangers look like him scoring for Celtic but, even better, is Robert Duvall’s attempt at a Scottish accent. He sounds like the Swedish chef from the muppets. Incidentally, to see The Rock looking like an elephant, you really need to be across the watter Another awesome video bud Hopefully you’ll get back to the Rock as Dumbarton’s win over Elgin last week (27/08/22) was the first time in our long and amazing history the Sons won their first 5 games on the bounce

Vale of Leven aren't disbanded mate, they play in the West of Scotland Conference B and are just up the road from Dumbarton in Alexandria, should pay them a visit 👍🏼

Great podcast. The story behind the Vale of Leven, Dumbarton and Renton is fascinating. Throw in Queens Park and Third Lanark and you have five teams that were the Kings of Football back in the day. Vale of Leven were formed first in August 1872 of the Vale Three and actually if it wasn't for Queens Park they would have become a rugby team. They convinced them that association football was the way to go. Dumbarton and Renton quickly followed suit. Worth checking out Sam. Cheers Graeme

Alan Shields Hamilton South Lanarkshire Scotland. I have sympathy for for Dumbarton F.C with regards to them not having the biggest of fanbases due to the fact that Dumbarton as a town was used as an overspill for Glasgow in particular the residents of Glasgow's East End this resulted in there bing a large proportion of the town's population being fans of Celtic this could not of made things easy for Dumbarton F.C to attract a decent size fanbase over the decades hence just the one stand. I always feel it would help Scottish football more if fans supported one of the Old Firm plus a provincial club like Dumbarton F.C but I would say fans like that are the exception rather tjan the rule due to the amount of abuse you would take for doing so.

I'm old enough to sort of remember the old stadium. It was an all-wooden all-terraces thing with really high stands built right in the middle of a housing estate. One side had weird entrances like military checkpoints and the other was just a street where people lived. The number one fact about it - you could sneak in.

I like Dumbarton's stadium, would be good if there was another couple of stands right enough, then you could see the rock behind it. Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar has the rock of Gibraltar right behind it too, and looks class And Braga's stadium in Portugal has a cliff coming right down to behind the goal too

I remember when I went to School Castlehead High School in Paisley there was a teacher that was a massive Stranraer fan he went to every single home game. Also remember the head of the maths department was a massive Melrose fan in Rugby Union he had a large team picture on his class room wall I remember the picture looking very old he eas adamant that Rugby Union was a much better game than football.

Dumbarton has a good history, but the town now is horrible with horrible people in it and that isn't everyone by all needs but ik some nasty people from there which is a shame
