Maybe with the technology used on the X-59, this can be a chance to make a new generation of Concorde. Or something close to Concorde.

Boom Overture might be the first successor to the Concorde since the ending of the Concorde program but it won't use much tech from the X59

Why do we make supersonic planes silent? They go fast when they at high altitudes (We can't hear) so, what is the reason ?
@EnsignFuntimes6 ай бұрын
There’s a very good video on here of someone in the middle of the ocean getting flown over by the Concorde at altitude and the boom is STILL loud as hell
@arslaanmania13096 ай бұрын
too much fuel, lift problems at high altitudes with supersonic flights etc.
@nmspy6 ай бұрын
Sound travels further than you’d think, a jet flying at 5,000 ft still slightly shakes my home. But quiet likely entails less vibrations at Mach, leading to smoother flight, efficiency, and ability to maintain high speeds over housed areas (as opposed to concord)

Okay, cheesy 80’s aerospace toys look aside, I guess the idea of a jet that can hit mach speeds without making a boom is impressive. I can’t help imagining though that the Air Force is already working on their own version to make their long range missiles and stealth bombers more… uh, stealthy. I mean the ability to drop a lethal payload deeper into enemy territory without setting off their perimeter noise detectors from a few miles away is not just an application that only I’ve considered, right?

As if air travel doesnt have enough environmental impact already. Its not faster we need, its less impact per mile and person. The fastest way to see someone or have an important meeting is a Teams/Zoom meeting. "Having" to fly fast is just bad planning or gluttony. Although as an engineer I approve of technical progress in any sense.

It's silent, though which is a breakthrough for super sonic transport. One of the main issues (aside from cost) why supersonic aircraft died out as an industry was the disturbance from the noise and impact of supersonic aircraft to the point regulations were put against it. Once again if we can create silent, safe and cheaper supersonic aircraft, it may become more common in commercial use.
