Granite countertop cleaning tip; clean it initially with a little warm water and a mild dish soap on a sponge. Once it’s dry, wipe over it with a microfiber cloth. That’ll take the streaks away. Avoid using abrasive pads, granite can be scratched. And don’t use vinegar, windex or bleach. It’ll dull the granite and weaken the sealant. Just use mild dish soap, warm water and a sponge.

I had the same problem with my black granite counters no matter what cleaning product I used. Then I got a granite cleaner and no more smear marks! There is a cleaning brand called Method here in the US and I am pretty sure it’s available in the UK that have a great non-toxic granite cleaner. We have the same worktop... the best thing to do is wash your cloth in fairy liquid and cif cream and rinse and squeeze it off, now n then and it makes the counter look perfect!

I use Ecover multi spray on our induction hob - not quite a granite worktop but it smears very easily. There’s no harsh chemicals in it either so it won’t do any damage

You need a microfiber cloth to clean those work tops, then you can wipe them down with some regular tap water. Also when the cloth needs cleaning you can wash them with your cloths, but they need to be air dried. If you put a microfiber cloth in a tumble dryer the heat with wreck it.

We have black granite surfaces and to clean them we use the hot water from the kettle and wipe it all down with that water and then use kitchen roll to dry it down and it prevents all the smears and weird patches that can form on the surface:)))

I have granite surface in my kitchen and always get streaky marks but if I dry completely with a dry tea towel right after wiping it down generally I find that the streaks don't appear! It's a lot of effort but it's worth it!

To keep the granite from smudging you’ll need a buffing cloth. Spray the surface with a cleaner (I usually use the flash surface cleaner - some cleaners will leave a mark no matter how much you buff it), wipe it down with a dish cloth and then dry with the buffing cloth.
