I don’t know why but I can just imagine the day that the NGRs will be getting scrapped and how much we will realise how fast time has went but to be honest I may not see them because surprisingly QR like to keep their trains for a long time. From when I made this comment the EMUs are quite hard to find around the network now but I hope they stay around for that little bit longer as they are great trains and I will deeply miss them. 😢

Interest video Adrian. It was interesting to see the end of life of these units. It is a pity the sets were not removed and installed in the NGR unit to replace those oh so uncomfortable seats. Thanks for the views.
@adriannettlefold90842 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rob. Yeah the drivers all complained about their seats on the NGRs as well, very uncomfortabke. The diesel locomotives are the only ones that haven't faced being scrapped. Many have been cut up after accidents, and other sold to overseas railways, but none have been officially scrapped in Queensland. All good things come to an end and memories are all we carry with us.

this is every train lovers worst nightmare… seeing a train being destroyed 😭😭 (ik the ngr trains were out like when i was like 5 but i used the beenliegh and ferny grove lines which has alot of emu’s so this is still so sad seeing all the emus in death row)
@Enthusiastic-Trainspotter-BNE7 ай бұрын
Ferny Grove & Beenleigh is where they predominantly used as no NGR units can operate along the Ferny Grove due to the curves - they also are on basically all other lines bar for Goldie, Gympie & Airport lines, but it just is more a matter of luck with getting one.

Honestly, I think they are too good to scrap. This broke my heart to see. I'd even live in one - anything to keep them from scrap... Not sure how long these EMUs have left in service but surely even the interior trim could be used on the ones that are in service when some of the plastic snaps. Also, why 77 and 63? were these the most mechanically troubled?
@adriannettlefold9084 Жыл бұрын
They didn't have anything wrong with them on my last trip driving them. The 60 class (blind ended guards cab) were the ones that QR targetted to scrap. Machinery in Passenger Transport is subject to stricted Mechanical regulations and has a shelf life for safety reasons. So when it comes time to weigh up the cost of rebuild vs new, most of the time it's cheaper to buy newer. Most of the parts for the older units, are getting harder to get, Covid has knocked a fair bit of industry on the head. I hope that goes some way to answer your question. cheers.

I think it's cool that the steam trains still have a legitimate job of hauling cargo even if it's hauling trains instead of being a museum price in Sydney it's been 3 years since I last saw a steam train pass the train station and it was a Garrett

There hasn't been any QR Heritage Steam hauled excursions here in Queensland since the bushfires in 2019, except for one charter to Grandchester in early 2020 prior to the lockdowns. That was after much negotiating with the transport minister by the ARHS. I don't know when or even if we will have any QR operated heritage trips.

They are now going to hold off on retiring them until the next new downer trains enter service. As the NGR trains are almost done been fixed up, QR are ramping up refurbishment of the SMU/IMU fleets so they are going to keep the EMIs a little longer. But these are the later built Emu trains (those built around the mid-late 80s) as some of them aren’t even 40 yet.

Hi. I don't know if QR is scrapping any more of the EMUs at the present, but when there was a cleanout of rollingstock and Diesel locomotives from Ipswich Workshops, they did it through an Auction sight. My advice is to either Ask at admin office to the Ipswich workshops, or watch on one of the railway interest group's facebook/ internet pages. Unfortunately I don't know who to contact directly. Cheers.
