Funny story...My anthropology prof, who studied Egypt decades before I was born, was tricked into buying a piece of pottery that was a fake. They had collected pottery shards from ancient sites, crushed them, and reworked the clay. When he returned and had it dated, the use of ancient shards also fooled the dating process. One of his fellow anthropologists pointed out a tiny flaw that proved the clay pot was a fake...after he returned to the states. The pot now resides in a place of honor on his mantle...proof that even the "experts" can make mistakes. This has nothing to do with this video...I just remembered it while they were discussing the ancient pottery, and thought it was an amusing story to share.

Why is there so much argument about spelling? According to most linguistic authorities the usual spellings of _civilis/zation_ are both correct, are both common in most *Anglophone* countries and no such authority considers this controversial. Pedantry in spelling is only useful where it prevents misunderstanding. Otherwise it's simply arrogance.
@ErinBudgets4 жыл бұрын
I believe the arrogance you’ve give in your response of how well you know the English language is staggering. You’ve attacked people as though you are superior purely because they do not hold the same interests as yourself. Not everyone is ‘obsessed’ as some, and considering it is a British English presenter, the use of ‘s’ is understandable. However, considering this is bloody KZbin, not the history channel or NatGeo this video is open to many people of many nationalities who may not use English as a first language, thus may be used to a certain spelling. You appear to be the instigator for many an argument that can be resolved with a simple, “oh it’s the British spelling, not American but the same word”.
@philaypeephilippotter65324 жыл бұрын
@@ErinBudgets 1. It is not arrogance. I never said that *_I_* am an authority. I did say I've been studying *English* for a long time, which I have. I _did_ say that people shouldn't be pedantic about language, which I believe. 2. I have _attacked_ no-one. Why do _you_ say I have and who do _you_ think I've attacked? 3. I didn't say anything about the presenter. What I said was that both spellings are current in both *_English_** English* and *_US_** English* and all the other variations. This is true according to all authorities. 4. I'm not _obsessed_ with anything. Why do _you_ think I am and what do _you_ think I'm obsessed with? What I said was in response to a post that said that the _z_ spelling in such words as _civilization_ was *_US_** English* rather than *_British_** English.* All I said then was that either spelling is acceptable both here and there. Misguided spelling pedants can upset quite rational people by telling them that they're wrong when they're not. They are usually very didactic.

In the Bible, we are told that while Moses was trying to bargain with Pharaoh for the Jews release so they could sacrifice to YHWY, Pharaoh's suggested that they do their sacrifices there. But Moses replied that would be against their laws and religion, because the Egyptians worshipped the bull, if they were to sacrifice a bull in their presence, they would be killed. This is also said in the books of Jasher and Jubilees. I love to read these books. They are truthful & inspiring. Of course many do not believe this, in this modern time. People have accepted the sciences as their gods. It's funny that many scientists believe in the old pagan gods and Kabbalah.....While they teach there is no God.

I gotta wonder why the flat earther, aliens and advanced civilization power pyramid builder mummy denier wackadoodles even watch these documentaries. There are channels for the wild haired history conspiracy theorists a plenty for those who want to rant about giants and pyramid power. Go there; you’ll be happier.

I see that figure dressed all in black with the black parasol and know that I am off on an adventure of exploration in Egypt. Joanne is forever saying that she thinks or believes things to be this way or that. She always seems to be open to another opinion on the country and culture. I also know that I am being spoken to NOT at like a child or ignorant person. The fascination through her speech patterns makes things both educational and interesting to me.

I like the delivery of the sunkljevt matter however. Is it not a fact that the Pyramids are not burial mounds and they are not 3000 to 5000 years old. Unfortunately for me. This good programme will have no meaning. WHY do you not look st the Archeology not the myth and lies of the history.
