The First Saturday of May is a short film that follows the story of an Irish-Traveller father as he struggles to raise his son to be the man he was destined to be. As a well-respected figure in his community, Paddy yearns for nothing more than to have the perfect family, however, pushing his son to be the next man of the McDonagh family will only drive a bigger wedge between them. You never know what’s happening behind closed doors.
Shot on ARRI ALEXA Mini with CP2 lenses.
Thanks to LSBU.

Made me feel very bad inside. I really wish for all parents to learn to love their children regardless of their gender identity, or sexual orientation. I know it's hard. But a role of parent is be a parent. Caring, loving and supporting... I wish all children to have parents like that. A powerful film.

Funny you say that. Wassily Kandinsky and Henry Matisse were both lawyers. In fact, Kandinsky taught law at a university. Sir Walter Scott was a lawyer, too. Paul Gauguin was a stock broker. So yeah, you will need to come up with another analogy.

The moment I saw the dad boxing, my heart just dropped and I was hoping that the dad wouldn't beat and abuse his kid... The extra fear of having a care-taker who does martial arts or sports who haven't shown an outwardly positive or neutral attitude towards the LGBTQ+ community is sort of relatable to me (unfortunately), just that added danger (plus resorting to violence when angered) brings out a lot of emotions in me. This film is absolutely heart-breakingly amazing and showcase the harsh reality that some of us has to go through not just in the trans community but also others within the LGBTQ+ group. Stay safe everyone

It reminds me of my youth except my mom beat me for over a decade before kicking me out of the house at 16. I thought there was something seriously wrong with me and at times I still feel that way. I will never be able to pass as the woman I have always been and that saddens me to the bone. I am 62 now and most of the time pray for death. Even my therapist abandoned me. I just hope the younger ones find hope and happiness in their true selves.

I also have a problem with the conflation of soft & feminine with weak & vulnerable. This is very much the direction I thought the movie was going. That the father would realize his insistence on gender norms made his child vulnerable to predation and that he would show back up with pink boxing gloves or something.

Henrique Riço u know if you think your parents are like this u should wait until u trust your self enough to deal with it and you don’t need to rush it. I came out as trans 2 years ago but I have know for about 7 years so there really is no need to rush it if you feel okay mentally, but then again when you come out you are going to feel great if you get good support but it can really mess someone up if they experience this kind of abuse so take your time but you should definitely come out but when you feel ready for it!❤️ hope you get a good reaction and feel great!!❤️ Edit: sorry for this long ass message just don’t want you to feel like you have to rush anything if you don’t feel the need to!

I think the baby was probably put to sleep and the kid (luey or lewi idk) didnt seem like he was uncomfortable with his uncle. So although he was kidnapped he probably felt kind of nice there. And yes, he beat him quite badly then burned the trailor so im pretty sure the uncle died. And lastly, it looks like Lewi ran away.

You have to understand the father, you have to understand the mother and you have to understand the child. Parents know from the moment our children are born what is the path that life has in store for them. No father or mother wants his son to be gay because he knows that he will have a life of pain, crying, suffering, loneliness, beatings, teasing, humiliation, discrimination and abuse. Mothers know what their children are from the moment they have it on their lap for the first time, some accept it, others deny it or do not accept it. And a child, children do not understand anything about the prejudices and labels of adults, of society. Homosexuality is not a choice, nor is it a decision, homosexuality is just that, homosexuality, it is innate, and a child can be born heterosexual as he can be born homosexual. The homosexual is born, not made. No boy or girl or adolescent wakes up and says "OH ... today I decide to be homosexual" Nobody, nobody in their right mind wants to go down the hardest, most painful and loneliest road in life. Being born gay is already a weight and a very great responsibility that life puts on the shoulders of a child, for God's sake, let's not put more weight on his tired shoulders with our prejudices. I think the least we parents can do for our gay children is to put aside prejudices and support, love, hug and kiss our children, you never know what internal battle he is waging and how much pain he is feeling ... Instead of criticizing them and forcing them to be what they cannot be. Why do we not prepare them for the hard road that they will have to travel? When a gay child is not supported in his house, she is easy prey for sexual predators… The case was seen in the recent video.

"No father or mother wants his son to be gay because he knows that he will have a life of pain, crying, suffering, loneliness, beatings, teasing, humiliation, discrimination and abuse." You don't need to be "gay" to have a life as you've described. Millions of straight kids have parents and guardians who inflict this kind of abuse too. You make far too many broadside assumptions about what being a gay man or woman entails in our society. I've been "gay" since puberty which was at least 70 years ago! And other than what I would consider "my fair share" of the speed bumps life sends our way, I enjoy a GREAT LIFE with my partner of over 45 years. So, how about dialing down the hyperbole and generalizations? People come in all sorts of sexualities... and most of their problems will be caused by the IGNORANCE and PREJUDICES of OTHERS, not by their own sexual orientation.

WATCH IT TWICE TO UNDERSTAND The teenage trans child is a male-at-birth who identifies as a girl, and he is not attracted to men (not gay). The family were Roman Catholic, nomadic, Irish Travelers ("White Gypsies") who were devoted to Our Lady of Fatima, and the father was an alcoholic who did not have a stable job in one location. The film was open-ended and did not even hint at the fate of the trans child. Viewers can assume whatever they wish. The important point is that the father knew that his trans child was in the caravan when he last saw him, and the father did not see his trans child come out of the caravan before he doused it with gasoline and torched it, after which he and his wife stood helplessly watching the caravan burning in flames. The impulsive, enraged father wanted to kill his neighbor for molesting his trans child, and he didn't care whether or not his trans child was burned in the caravan. The apparent death of the trans child in the caravan could be thought of as a "cultural killing" because the trans child severely violated the Irish Traveller traditional culture. Wiikipedia > Irish Travellers (Irish: an lucht siúil, meaning "the walking people"), also known as Pavees or Mincéirs (Shelta: Mincéirí), are a traditionally peripatetic indigenous ethno-cultural group originating in Ireland. They are predominantly English-speaking, though many also speak Shelta, a language of mixed English and Irish origin. https ://www .catholic .com /qa/first-saturday-devotion-requirements Question: What are the requirements for first Saturday devotions? Answer: The Five First Saturdays Devotion is a request made by Our Lady of Fatima. The Blessed Mother promised to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation all who, as an act of reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, on the first five Saturdays of consecutive months: Go to confession Receive Holy Communion Say five decades of the rosary Keep Mary company for fifteen minutes meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the rosary The sacramental confession can be received within eight days either before or after the reception of Communion, provided the communicant is in a state of grace for Communion. Reception of Holy Communion must take place within twnety-four hours of the first Saturday. The reception of Communion need not be part of a Mass. The fifteen minutes of meditation are in addition to the recitation of the rosary. Wikipedia > Our Lady of Fátima (Portuguese: Nossa Senhora de Fátima, pronounced [ˈnɔsɐ sɨˈɲɔɾɐ dɨ ˈfatimɐ]); formally known as Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fátima) is a Catholic title of Mary, mother of Jesus, based on the Marian apparitions reported in 1917 by three shepherd children at the Cova da Iria in Fátima, Portugal.

I believe the father knew the child left the caravan. He wouldn't burn it knowing the child was still inside. Hes not a monster just a proud man who doesn't understand why his son isn't like him. The fathers ego has a big part to play.

It was over 80 years ago when I first went to school. I cannot remember even one occasion where I was aware of "trans" people or those experiencing "gender identity" issues requiring different pronouns. However, since puberty when I became aware I was attracted physically and emotionally to my own sex, I had my own challenges that perhaps made me blind to these issues. Or is there some sort of new phenomenon growing in our entitled societies?

@@SeinIshamiado t seems to me that many today EXPECT others to automatically accommodate THEIR needs and wants just because they exist. I come from a generation that understood clearly that with RIGHTS came RESPONSIBILITIES and that we are not here to do as we WANT to do WHENEVER we wish, but to do as we SHOULD or OUGHT to do, at an APPROPRIATE TIME and in a COOPERATIVE manner. Far, far too many are DEMANDING to be heard and serviced long before they even know what they're talking about and/or have the logical, reasonable, respectful arguments that earn them the right to ASK. The moment we DEMAND is the moment we make a fundamental error. Very few people are prepared to listen or act on DEMANDS. All that said, those "in authority" are failing miserably in their obligation to LISTEN, UNDERSTAND and RESPOND FAIRLY to the voices of minorities. So, in summary... FAR too many people demanding FAR too much. They all think and act as if they're ENTITLED to the "good life" long before they've done the work to deserve it.

Be a woman who is different from normal women and transgender women Love yourself .. Spoil it .. Lift the banality and nourish your soul with all that is beautiful .. with all that is sophisticated .. and elevate your thoughts, aspirations and aspirations .. and distinguish from all .. Being a trans woman is referred to as love, affection, and kindness ... cultured and good-tempered ... and do not acquiesce in those who try to frustrate you or reduce your stature or personality .. Be a transgender woman who has inner beauty before the outer beauty is calm, nice, lovable, keep warm, friendly and loving ... know when to speak and when to keep silent ... being an elegant trans woman to not eat the mold food that flies about ... being like a jewel can only approach you He appreciates and deserves you Be you ... and don't be like other women .. Do not compare yourself with others .. You are different 👑 Beautiful and you deserve the best and everything that is beautiful and fits with your personality and beauty Look for a man who appreciates you and respects you and makes you feel safe and makes you the greatest and most important thing in his life and you feel with him happiness and joy and that you were completed with him by being together a man who cares and loves your soul before your body a person who cares He loves you a lot and fears you, if you missed him for a minute Among his priorities, but most important and does everything to make you happy and make the smile not T Thinner face and lips ... a man loves ... more accurate your details who sees the world in your eyes and see that you are a woman of his dreams and the princess of his heart and sees you sweetheart and his wife by law and which colonized his heart and his life and finds you home to which he belongs ♡♡♡♡
