To all the upcoming creators out there, It took me 2 years to get my first 100 subscribers. But after those first 2 years I grew exponentially over the course of 10- 12 months. My channel has been on hiatus for over a month since my revenue dropped by 90% for no apparent reason. I no longer care if my channel is bound to fail. KZbin is like the gym! Very few people see results quickly, the most important part, is to stay consistent.
@OhShiitakeMushrooms Жыл бұрын
The one major thing that truly kills a channel is KZbin’s favoritism towards YT’s 100 biggest channels with their “rich get richer and famous, becomes more famous” programmed algorithm. Like seriously some dude with a creepy mustache who has over 200 million subscribers probably doesn’t need anymore help from the algorithm anymore since he has an audience. Yet that’s when the algorithm pushes their content the hardest. That seems completely backwards to me. Once a creator gets to say 50 million subscribers they shouldn’t get help from the algorithm anymore. But it definitely helps to be buddies with the KZbin IT people who programs the algorithm. Definitely a lot of insider information being shared there.
@theanonymousbear Жыл бұрын
I personally think the number one thing that kills a channel is using services that promise subscriber growth or more views (especially if you buy them). It’s a short term gain for a long term loss because it screws up your audience also watches section, you have a lot of inactive subscribers who aren’t watching your videos which screws you in the algorithm, and all it does in the long run is boost your ego.
@HawaiiFoodAndFun Жыл бұрын
You may be right, I revamped my old channel so while I never bought my subscribers, a lot are inactive. Its been an uphill battle w the watch hours for sure.

I totally agree with you. There’s definitely a short term dopamine ego boost, but at the long run it’ll kill your channel. Such services do more harm than good as they often seem to promise. That’s not to mention the financial strain on you. They can be pretty expensive.

3:37 i have a friend who is a fitness guy and uploaded a progress video which a famous KZbinr picked up and shared on his channel. The result was he gained over 5k subscribers in one week. He then felt pressured to create more fitness content for his new subscribers. He did and lots of it, he got burned out. It showed in his videos his views went from over 50k to the low hundreds all the while still having those 5k plus subscribers. Long story short… he still has over 5k subs but hasn’t cracked 1k views in months. Thats proof that subs don’t matter. They can simply mute their notifications and check back with you at their leisure.

You just have to stay hard working no matter what happens, but starting and growing your channel is definitely the toughest part, but the thing is that you need to give viewers the content they want to see, the content they can't live without. Same like business owners give people products they need in their life. Also you have to stay consistent (and you should also use a little bit of Famester to make everything a lot easier. For me, it feels like I am in control of everything and I don't need to worry about algorithms anymore). Good luck to everybody.

What changed??? My best explanation is that on the day of the collapse I set all my shorts on my channel to only allow audio copying and videos to no copying at all. Repeat viewers > Subscribers After 1,000 subs, subscribers do not matter. (Looking forward to that silver plaque though tbf 👀) Yep, pretty happy to just have a few viral moments and nothing infinitely more successful than everything else. Natural growth is more satisfying than a peak moment that can never again be matched. That would be demoralising af! As long as you're improving somehow with each video (not necessarily views, maybe just expanding your own knowledge of your niche or learning a new editing technique) then you're all good! Just don't get bogged down in quantity and stagnate.

I made a viral video which made me about 70€ and I understand that not all videos will do even nearly as good, but the most important thing is that you're having fun. I decided a couple days ago that I will try to build up an audience through shorts over the coming months, I won't earn as much money, but I think it will set me up for better future success. Keep grinding everyone, you WILL make it, I'm not kidding, I thought is was just slander a couple months ago, but eventually you WILL get there, trust me!
@bbreak Жыл бұрын
Still disagree on the algorithm though... as a small creator you should definitely 'battle' the algorithm... if you're content is absolutely perfect for your audience but they don't get to see it it'll still result in no views.... and the algorithm being a good find-and-discover-algorithm is quite honestly a myth.... I used to just focus on my (target) audience and it got me nowhere, even worse my channel completely crashed one day... Now I focus on audience AND the algorithm and the channel is growing. Audience engagement has never been better! But every month or two the algorithm still all of a sudden decides "nah, don't like your channel" and I have to reinvent things to make the algorithm like me again.... even though i know my audience already liked what I was doing before (as likes, comments and subs confirmed). Happened again just two weeks ago... channel was growing, many shorts received thousands and thousands of views, audience engagement through the roof, and from one day to the next: near zero (and sometimes actually zero) impressions on everything I posted... So currently working hard on some changes by experimenting with new formats and see what works that still pleases my audience but which also 'pleases' the algorithm
@MrThinkImPossible Жыл бұрын
Personally unless you are aiming to have a “short” channel. I think shorts are “killing” your channel. I have stopped making shorts and my channel began to explode on long form. To each their own, but check out your analytics and see what is the most effective videos and recreate those. Shorts are great for views & subscribers but it creates a false sense of success cause one short can get 5k views and the next one literally get 3. Then we get all butt hurt. Screw that. I haven’t made a short in months now.
@bbreak Жыл бұрын
@@MrThinkImPossible thanks for the advice! it is indeed something I have been thinking about a lot. However, with my long-form I currently just don't reach enough people... So I need shorts to grow. It's also relevant what your target audience is, my target audience is mainly teenage girls and young adults... They have more interest in short-form content and I can use that to get them to my long-form content. And it works for my channel (I think!). For most channels that combine long-form and shorts people watching shorts don't also watch long-form (and the other way around). However, on my channel quite a lot of people watch both the shorts AND the long-form content. I also see people clicking from my shorts to the long-form content. So, quite honestly, I don't think quiting shorts is a luxury I can afford for my channel... However, I could consider taking a break from shorts some time and see what happens... I'll think about it! Appreciate you taking the time for this.

I’m not at all a big youtuber, but I’m definitely a happy one. I’ve had this feeling of failure haunt me for months - up until I came up with a solution. I’ve got a steady job with fine income: nothing too fancy, but it is fulfilling, pays bills and leaves some extra. So what’s left for me to do with YT? Why yes, have a hobby! And so I came back to where I started: I’m once again my own viewer, doing videos I’d wanna watch. And while it’s nice to see a video do way better than usual, ultimately I don’t care. As long as I’m happy about posting something - I post it, come what may. And it works! I’m just as happy doing YT as I was when I started, maybe ever more, people keep coming to my YT and my twitch streams - and would you know it, this hobby started making some money back! While it’s not much, at this point content creation became self-sustainable and even has some leftovers. So, as far as it goes - I feel pretty successful.

I've had a video that did well and got over a 140k views, the two following vides I made didn't even reached 1k. I'm really worried that it might've negatively impacted my channel and if anything I'm doing right now towards my channel is pointless.

@hazie3375 Well mental illness and wellbeing is currently a hot topic. Of course a video about social anxiety was going to go viral. People are searching for it. But those same people aren’t going to be interested in Anime Femboys. This is a great example of why you need to stick to your niche. Will this hurt your channel? No. Just don’t overthink it and get back to making videos for your target audience.

I have seen you hash out the algorithm on many occasions but here is one thing I have noticed that I have yet to see any explanation. Why is it that when you hit certain thresholds of Subscribers you can see a noticeable difference in impressions? Almost like it caps off at a certain amount of Subscribers? I noticed a big difference when I got 100 subs and another at 300 subs. Like a boost.

This weekend I made a video on a more controversial topic and it got 1.5k views over 24 hours, it got 135 comments (mostly haters) and a 60% like ratio. It's more views than I've got on any long form video so far, but the level of hate made me feel really discouraged. I really appreciate the pep talk because I thought the hate levels were going to send my channel into a death spiral. Good to know that the haters actually help with growth 😂

So, my signs of that my youtube channel might be failing, are the low subscriber count, espacially for the time i already make video’s, and the low views. We don’t really have much dislikes or negative comments, but that is because our channel just isn’t getting noticed by anyone lol. But I want to keep up and I am not going to stop. That was brilliant. I really felt spoken to. But yeah, I have learned not to sweat it. For the first few months of my channel I forgot to ask people to like and subscribe. When I was reminded to do so I did it almost apologetically, and always at the end. I do usually explicitly say no-one should feel any obligation to like of subscribe. Ironically some people have done so just because of that. I have started inviting people to like and subscribe at the beginning but with the option to unlike and unsubscribe if they then don't like it. And I remind people of that at the end. I'm also big on expectation management. So doing one take unrehearsed is sort of part of the brand now. I do try to keep the filming and audio good though. Fundamentally though, I just enjoy making videos. Both the actual process of filming and editing; and also when the viewership engages in the comments. It's fun!

I just started my channel and I'm enjoying this advice so I have so much to learn. His advice is very honest and genuine. I don't think my channel will ever be big enough to monetize, but when I get comments from people saying my video was helpful, it makes me happy. 😆
@VowellVentures Жыл бұрын
Consistency is my most difficult issue to deal with being that my content source is 2800 miles away from where I currently live, and my current day job swallows up the majority of my time. That said, knowing this going in to trying to build up my channel I knew and expected a slow and painful climb at least until I could move onto our property full time. I concentrate on learning and improving the process involved and occasionally a video will do far better than expected right after publication. So far it seems that people like videos with my dump truck in it better than any other, but the channel is about the entire homestead project as a whole and all of the projects that it entails from actual construction to equipment repair and operation. It's hard to resist the temptation to try and grow quickly by only making videos that seem to be the most popular for a faster growth, but once work to the dump truck runs out I can't help but think that most of the gains made by those videos would be lost since that isn't the core purpose of the channel. The subscribers that I have amassed so far seem to be very loyal and interested in seeing what happens when it happens which is working well for me. Second most difficult thing is making the videos engaging, every time I am up at the property I feel rushed to get a lot of work done and filming something so far makes all projects take a lot longer and that is hard to swallow. I either don't film projects because of it, or compromise and don't spend as much time trying to figure out the best angles and shots to make the chores and projects fun to watch. It'll all come together someday and hopefully will be a channel that a lot more people enjoy being a part of. The better something does, or works... the more excited I get and am willing to put more energy and time in to it.

I've started my channel for 2 months. Well, it barely has any views and it may seem like a lonely journey since I have to do eveything alone. I think the biggest thing that hurts channels are, scam channels telling you they know best about your channel, other channels fake subbing then unnsubbing claiming they support you, not being shared to other platforms, being down voted and negative comments by fake accounts made by bigger similar channels, basically DO YOUR OWN THING that is what youtube wants be different
