The First Tenure: Experiences and Learnings of Local Government in Nepal

In Nepal, the first tenure of local government under the federal system ended in May 2022 when the local elections took place. In this video, the elected officials from the partner municipalities of our Subnational Governance Program (SNGP) reflect on the experiences and learnings during their tenure, which marked the historic first tenure of the subnational government after Nepal adopted the federal system.
The Asia Foundation has been implementing SNGP in Nepal since 2017 through a strategic partnership with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to promote an enabling environment for developing strong, effective, and inclusive subnational governments in Nepal that benefit all, including women and marginalized groups.
