2:01 Now I understand why Mononoke-Hime/Princess Mononoke has so much Ainu culture invested in its story and why it was so beautifully told. They waited patiently when the time finally came.

I love Miyazaki but i hate that he completely overshadows the other talented directors in Ghibli to where a lot of people in the west think Ghibli just means Miyazaki

It makes me annoyed too. Takahata's movies are often more interesting, then there's Whisper of the Heart, From Up on Poppy Hill, When Marnie was There, The Secret World of Arietty etc which weren't directed by either.

This is a representative Film influence by the Russian Snow Queen 1957.(From the eye drawing style that omits the line, Directing Technique, Character, hugely influenced the look of anime)

I like to think of Hilda melancholy and its influence on Miyazaki female characters such as Nausicaä, Kiki, Chihiro and Sophie. Puka-san always knew how to build simple and complex emotional impact.

If we want to get technical, Gulliver no Uchuu Ryokou was the first unofficial Ghibli film as Hayoa Miyazaki contributed story elements and animation to it in 1965.
@Stevem
@Stevem 6 жыл бұрын
I've seen that film and I kind of disagree,while the ending and one particular scene hold some elements of Miyazaki's style. I believe Ghibli is both the creative talents of Takahata and Miyazaki. Hols is the first film they both had heavy involvement within and resembles the themes/narrative we would see them tackle for the next several decades afterwards.

It's a bit strange that you refer to Takahata by his given name so much, but otherwise very interesting. i should really rewatch all my ghibli and pre ghibli dvds, you've convinced me this one is worth another try. Also please look up how to pronounce Isao
@Stevem

It's been a while since writing this, but if I had to guess I was using his forename more because it was less syllables. Although yeah maybe I should of spent more time looking up how to pronounce it whoops, ahahah I've been saying it wrong for a while ah well it happens.

This title is misleading. These men would take almost 20 years to form Studio Ghibli, and simply because this is the film where they first met and worked together does NOT make it a Studio Ghibli film, unofficial or not. They also worked together on multiple films at multiple studios in between the release of this film and the founding of Ghibli...so is it also an "unofficial first film" for all of those studios as well? C'mon...good content, misleading title...
@Stevem
@Stevem 6 жыл бұрын
The definition of Unofficial is not authorized or acknowledged by a government, group, class, or society. This is a Studio Ghibli film in structure, themes , tone and animation style. It was made by the same two directors who founded the company. This is not "where they met" they met many years before hand at the company and their vision for this film is where they developed such a strong bond and became a long standing working team. The early Toei Animation ethos defined the ethos of Ghibli. It was an idea that you could bring a bunch of like minded individuals and they could suggest how to progress the project with any idea being as good as another. That an animated film should be about more than just selling toys. That animation should be big and explosive in look rather than the astroboy style of the time. This film may have been the biggest influence in Miyazaki's directorial direction for the next 30 years too. So I believe it was the first unofficial Ghibli film. Ghibli was only made so they could keep making films like this one. I'd also say a film like Nausicaa is an unofficial Ghibli movie too.
