I was a Sony Main dealer in central London. My rep invited me to a hotel in Park Lane for the launch of the first Walkman. I met Mr Morita. What surprised me most was the initial response of my competitors in the trade who were slightly negative saying that it was over £100 and didn't record which was how they saw the market. I jumped at the opportunity to buy as many a I could from the original trial shipment. Within a month I had other dealers asking me to sell some of my stock at trade price. What the warning meant to say was - This video contains audio technology which is around 40 years old. I would advise you listen to this video through your speakers and have your finger on the volume button. Additionally, we are talking about an era of mono sound... so unless you want your -ear- to bleed... listen on SPEAKERS!

Nice vid. Very enjoyable. But you missed out the 1979 Sony original TPS-L2. You feature the later 1980 TPS-L2 b. The difference is the earlier 1979 Version doesn't have the Word Walkman on the front. But has The Word Stereo written on the front in white. The Sony logo is also smaller and written in white on the 79 edition.

Hysterical made my day so funny demoing this being of an age that grew up with this. His book is a bit incorrect regarding boom boxes well in the UK anyway. Most teens like myself hung around in groups that were into a particular type of music and would have a boom box but we all had personal stereos as well no one could afford a Walkman they were just to expensive. So we were using boom boxes til around 1985.
@TheRetroFuture6 жыл бұрын
Thats amazing! Love hearing stories like that. I had a portable CD player in a camouflage colour!
@paulb4uk6 жыл бұрын
I used boomboxes for a while the hitachi 3d8 3d superwoofer was great but it went through battery fast with the volume up still it sounded better than the kids of today that have tiny mono blutooth speakers in there pocket in my day everyone got to listen to our music whether they wanted to or not ,At school we used the saisho amplified speaker bags with our walkmans . www.flickr.com/photos/yibb2/4731052887/lightbox/

Hi I bought a WM-3. Works great except I get a change insound quality every time I turn my headphone's jack. My headphones work just fine on my other walkmans. How could I fix this?
@thelonelytimbit5 жыл бұрын
the contacts inside the headphone jack have probably been pushed back over time, if you get a small pick you can slide it under the contacts and pull them closer to the center of the jack.

Hi, I have a question about my Gameboy. I’ve been watching all your Gameboy videos and I finally got a new casing for my Gameboy Color. When I put everything into the GameBoy Color, everything was in the correct spot, nothing sticking out, all good. But when I close it up, there is a gap between the front and back part of the case. Could you or someone who knows how to fix this help me?
@Deses6 жыл бұрын
A picture maybe? You may have forgotten to put the IR lens?
@TheRetroFuture6 жыл бұрын
Could be the IR lens yeah!
@kiko120006 жыл бұрын
The Retro Future Okay, so when I put the new casing on, I used the stock buttons and lens. Yesterday I took it apart and put the new buttons and lens that the case came with, and I saw the gap along the sides and bottom were now fixed but for some reason the top, where the IR lens is, still had a gap.

what's the function of tape counter?
@joshthecomputertech5 жыл бұрын
When you had multiple recordings on a single tape, it would be written on the cassette (or the cassette case insert) so you could FF to the recording you wanted to hear. Really useful in business, university, and law firm situations.

Man, I love the design of it! Even though it's almost useless today. I'll probably get me one these days. Even watching the cassette tape spinning is fun D: I wish there would be more separate hardware that has a decent quality build. Smartphones are indeed very smart, they can do so many things - but they're so boring to look at.
