High level swordplay duel taught me to never just flail. Fakeout the CPU with one angle in defense mode and then pivot to another that can't be blocked by previous angle and strike. Rinse, repeat in rapid succession. Seems to have worked for me.

It'd be a more hellish grind, but at higher levels, it's better than having to restart every time a mistake is made. Losing one round isn't the end of the world if you've won or drawn a prior round, provided you didn't draw more than once. Edit: The way I see it, the amount of skill points you earn depends on how well you played. You only got 29 during that battle with Gwen because you kept getting hit and parried. You got the full 100 with Michael because you only got hit once, and got blocked 4 times. It doesn't matter if you win or lose, if your technique is sloppy (no offense), you won't get much out of it. Being aggressive will only work if your opponent is exposing themselves. If they go on the defensive, you'd better do so as well, unless you can exploit a weakness in their defense. That's how you win.
