I was just thinking how I wish I could hear Ronald’s magic isolated and found this. Pretty much exactly what I wanted to hear.

It’s amazing how in less than 20 measures he can conjure up in rapid succession anything from what sounds like the echoes of a live full bluegrass band heard at a distance, to an infant wailing into a baby monitor, to what I can only imagine it would sound like if a rift opened in space-time, and then just go right back into a heavy, awesome, fuzzed-out riff, haha.

This is rather like hearing the Beach Boys Smile in it's broken down form. Having grown up with the 2 Ronald era albums I really take for granted the amount of sonic layering going on. Fascinating!

You think that the guys have asked Ronald back in the band over the years? I just imagine what he would have contributed over the years. He's guitar parts are beautiful and haunting and disturbed and sensitive and aggressive. Ronald Jones is the man.
@warshipsatin87642 жыл бұрын
wouldnt it be on him to ask them since he's the one who left the band? they've been a band without him for over 25 years now

It’s seems like he won’t be coming back ever. There is a fairly new interview we’re Wayne says his family wants to be anonymous and not have Ronald contacted etc. This album maybe the closest thing to new material we ever get. Although maybe one day some amazing stuff will surface that he has been working on for nearly 30 years. I don’t know if we will be so graced.

Such innocence in his writing/playing. It’s beautiful. Makes me sad.

I was there for some of the recordings as Brad Beesley's sound guy. This is def a "track" to be be mixed in with others. Ronald Jones did not jive with Wayne or Steven, BUT is one of Oklahomas BEST exports. He definitely carried them out of the Jonathan Donohue years (Mercury Rev). The best "Lips" shows ever, were with Steven (drums) and Ron (guitar).

You should have seen the screed they handed out about Ronald. They had this double sided flyer/poster with text explaining how Ronald was crazy and couldn't work right. They were handing it out at the Boombox Experiment show, which I saw in Boston, my last of 3 Flaming Lips 90s era shows.

Lol meaning they were pissed at him? Do you rember any specifics of what it said?

That's intriguing, I'd be interested to see a copy of that. I wonder if anyone still has their copy?

I'm glad you posted this!!! 😂 This is so essential... And the comic book is pretty funny and touching too! That fuzz sound Ron's using is a DOD Punkifier! Nice and Narley.... 👏🏻❤️

Are you sure? I thought those pedals were released in late 1995 (maybe a little earlier), he must have bought one right away at their introduction if it was used on the album.
@jamiegustkey25733 жыл бұрын
@@MisterJawaman - yeah... Ron used one of those. I'm not certain when he happened upon it, I'm pretty sure the minute it it was released... Or someone had it at the studio. Steven was telling me about it. I don't think it became part of his arsenal though.👍🏻
@MisterJawaman3 жыл бұрын
@@jamiegustkey2573 Thanks man! I own that pedal, bought it because it sounds badass and Graham Coxon used it on a couple of Blur songs. Did read somewhere that Ronald had one, but you read a lot of stuff online so didn't know if there was any truth to it. The pedal does sound like these isolated guitar recordings, maybe time to invest in nice stereo setup with a Twin Reverb or JC-120 hahah.
@jamiegustkey25733 жыл бұрын
@@MisterJawaman - that's awesome man! And obviously Graham's wicked distortion on song 2 - that Ratt pedal! That whole DOD series with like the grunge pedal and such... Maybe made slightly for gimmick type design... But that Punkifier definitely gets dirty for sure! Which has it's necessary place in the cosmos! Im still 'planning' on doing a Ronald Jones sounds emulation video... Using different things than he essentially used, but basically showing how to recreate done of his sounds using lesser, 'junkier' gear I spose- 😂 👍🏻

Many many thanks. CTM is one of my most beloved albums, and I had no idea that this even existed. Wow wow wow. Not sure what to call this guitar work, but right now "genius" does not seem excessive.
