I remember John Wesley Shipp playing Barry Allen's father in the CW Flash during the first 3 seasons until he was killed off, but then they brought him back as Flash from Earth 2 and the 1990's version as well.

I have to say I love the affection that Flash has shown towards this series. They have brought back John time and time again, as Barry's father, as another Flash, as Jay, etc. That affection has made me really respect the series.

I didn't know as much about comics back when The Flash first came out so I could only judge it on it's own merits and I loved it. It looked good and it was so much fun. All these years later I can appreciate it even more for how faithful it was to the comics during a time when that didn't happen. It was truly ahead of it's time.

When I was a kid there was this movie called _Hero At Large_ starring John Ritter. It came out in 1980, Ritter wasn't even playing an actual hero, he was playing an actor who played this hero called Captain Avenger at publicity events. Then he decided he wanted to try being a hero for real. The movie was a box office dud, panned by critics, and had an abysmal 2nd act... *I loved it!* With live action super hero movies at that time all there was was Superman and _this._ This had to count as a super hero flick...if it didn't, we lost 50% of the movies in this genre! I had recorded _Hero At Large_ on tape and watched it over and over. I still have a soft spot for it in my heart and I think it's a genuinely good movie...just as long as you can get through that 2nd act...

I loved this show, it got me into comics. So, when I saw John Wesley Shipp's Flash sacrifice himself (ala Crisis on Infinite Earths), I cried. It ended the journey of a childhood hero and reminded me of the friendless little comic book nerd I was. Full circle moment for me. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I own the series and it still holds up. If anything, it got cancelled when it was startitng to feel like a comic book. Several fun things worth mentioning: 1- John Wesley Shipp not only played The Flash ´ s (2013) father and his Flash but he also played Jay Garrick. ...so, in every way, it started with him. 2- Amanda Pays also appeared several times in the current Flash series. 3- Mark Hamill also played The Trickster again in the current Flash. PS Yes, there´s DC´s Trinity but, beyond those, Flash is one of the mot beloved Justice League members.

Oh I picked up this amazing TV show on DVD back when it was first released on that media. You nailed it on the time changes.
