If I were to shorted the part that goes around your finger, would everything still work the same?

Yeah...it should work if you shorten the length of that rectangle so the ring can fit your finger. If it's a lot smaller, just make sure the circle design on top doesn't look too big and out of proportion with the rest of the ring. If it looks too big on your finger, youll probably need to resize the pdf or save it as a png or jpg in order to shrink it.

maybe redo it and in the second one have a button that can actually control the the sliding gimmick of the two halves

Yeah, cutting and gluing all those tiny pieces can be challenging. But if you take your time and make sure the glue doesn't mess up the sliding mechanism, it should work out!
