These guys are such great songwriters. Cavalcade is awesome and I think Dead Language is an almost perfect record. I hope we get more videos like this.

I’ve grown as a guitar player tremendously through cavalcade and dead language. Cresswell’s incorporation of 7ths, diminished, and sus chords is splendid. He augments his chords very well, especially in faster songs. Let’s say he’s playing 8th note downstrokes for two measures. Rather than play all Dm chords, he will play something like: Dm, Dm, D7sus2, D7sus2, Dm, Dm. Also taught me how to throw in 7 chords and at the best point in the song. Basically, it’s like he avoids 5 chords at all costs. Rather than a C being D: 5 A:3 He will play smt like: D: 2 - 0 -2 A: 3 - 3 - 3 E: 3 - 3 - 3 Different chord voicings. He also will blend guitars in a manner like Scott will play a Bm barre chord while Chris plays a Bm7. Pretty much the same notes but emphasis on different strings at different spots on the neck. I play in a band, the other guitarist also lead singer. He relies heavily on 5 chords, whereas I mix in different voicings thru augmenting the degree of a chord or whatever. That also creates almost a wider; more surround sound type of sound. Typical example: Guitar 1 A: 4 E: 5 Guitar 2 A:7 E:5 Lastly, he’s big on fast, 16th note strumming that sounds like: D 3 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 0- 0 A: X X X X X X X E: 3 - 3 -3 - 3 -3 - 3 Ie Sleep your life away, mammals, Hang my head Also got a chance to speak with him a couple of times. At shows, (at least in 2010-2011 period) he would sit on his laptop at a table, open for anybody to approach him. By the way, his acoustic acts are phenomenal as well. Alright, I need another adderall.

Urgggg that's a tough one man, but you're not wrong. I'd say the best "Newer" bands (Can you tell I'm in my late 30's) Flatliners, None More Black, and Smoke or Fire. I really like Dead to Me as well. I feel like Fat Mike has an amazing grasp on finding unknown bands and introducing them to the world for all of us to enjoy!!!

I was just thinking this as well. I remember downloading their demo recordings on mp3.com wayyyy back in the day and being super excited that they had a full length album with Destroy to Create back in the late 2000s. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I don't look anywhere near as young and I'm only in my mid 30s now.

A public service announcement from Chris's dermatologist: we used to believe that punkrockers can maintain their skin by living fast and dying young. Recent evidence suggests that neither living straight edge nor excessively is the the key to good skin. In order for these results to be universally applicable, we have applied for a further grant to study how Chris, Fat Mike and Ian MacKaye compare. Such an intra-generational approach to punkrockers' skin condition will brinh forth new scientific evidence to an under-studied community.
