Thank you to the Texas Rangers for their strong and proud organization. My mom and 6 of her kids were all there. I was the only one of her kids that was not at that ranch when the rangers stepped in. I am the oldest of my moms kids but was in Colorado at the time. I was 11 and hadn’t seen mom in over a year and a half. My 6 siblings that were there were all ages 9 and younger. At the time, because I was uneducated as to truly what was going on on that ranch, I was furious and scared for what the Rangers had done. But after all the sexual abuse cases came out, it really tore the FLDS religion wide open and helped me make the decision to leave that cult when I turned 16-17. So happy I made that move.

The Mormons banned polygamy in 1890 so that Utah could be granted statehood, not in 1954 as stated in this video. Some groups broke off from the main church body in the 1890s in order to continue the practice. There was a large coordinated raid on polygamous compounds in Utah in 1954. I think there was some confusion between the two events in the lead up conversation.

I first became aware of the FLDS and Warren Jeffs by reading "Under the Banner of Heaven" by Jon Krakauer some years ago. The whole story is so sickening and I felt such anger at this man and his enablers. At the time he was still a free man, then he was finally charged and became a fugitive. Too bad there wasn't a way to sterilize him many years ago. May he rot in prison and then rot in Hell.

I am so glad he is in jail but why is he still allowed to continue to order the same types of practices to continue? I know he claims its religion. He has ordered no sex in marriages but the order must continue to grow so he chose a group of men who are qualified to send the wife's to to fertilize the women. Each time is witnessed by two men. Its all handled like animal husbandry. I know prisoners phone calks are recorded so why isn't this stopped? Families are being torn apart every day by him. Children are working instead of going to school.

I believe warren Jeff’s took it to another level of blatant abuse, but I wouldn’t consider what they were doing before was exactly kosher either. They were still marrying teens to old men but they were 17-18 not 12 like Jeff’s did. I just can’t trust families with a lot of kids as not being abusive unless they are adopting or fostering. These people who are baby making machines are using the kids as labor and protection from the law.
@jamieharrison1923 жыл бұрын
Polygamy is a choice yes. Most of these comments are from ppl who are not FLDS or Mormon. I’m from Utah and a prominent FLDS family. The problem stems from when men of marrying age run out of women or are in favorable positions with the prophet. Less women=resorting to younger girls. Equally disturbing is when “Tom” is in good standing and buddies with Warren he casually mentions how “Sue” catches his eye. Next thing you know Warren has had a revelation that she will be “Toms” bride. Sure she’s 16 but Tom is in good standing, probably in a position of power so she is honored to marry him!! It’s like marrying a celebrity! The system is flawed and these girls need to be protected by laws. They need to be safe and able to make informed decisions at an adult age.

I am going to speak as someone that is neither Mormon/FLDS/a supporter of FLDS, etc. It is no one's business religious or otherwise if someone chooses to live in polygamy. It is their choice. It should NOT be banned, regulated, infringed upon, etc. The only time it should be an issue is if girls under the age of the state required legal age to marry. Many people throughout the world and the US are living in polyamory/polygamy. Religious connotations should never be forced on someone. There are very strong laws regarding consent and to me, forcing a community and families to be torn apart is disregarding civil rights, disregarding consent, etc. Now, this thought, again, is not in regards to girls that are under the age and did not have a choice. It's a complicated issue.
@markrobinson8913 жыл бұрын
“Complicated” does not begin to hit anywhere near the head of the nail. The free exercise of religion shall not be infringed but, free is the key word. Warren Jeffs was credibly accused and finally convicted of abuse. This is not a case of the government/law enforcement interfering in the free exercise of religion. I am a member of the LDS faith. The history of polygamy is messy and complex. Religion is not the problem, extremists are, be it fundamentalist “mormons”, fundamentalist christians, or radicalized Islam. Any idea taken to extremes will produce bad outcomes.
@MissouriCrookedBarnHomestead3 жыл бұрын
@@markrobinson891 This is true, however, I will never inflict and enforce my views on someone else. The type of lifestyle that I am a part of has polyamory within it, but as it should be, a man should be attuned to his partner and how the idea of another woman in the picture effects her. In all reality, I have personally never seen a polygamist/polyamory relationship work. I've had many friends and acquaintances that are currently in it or have attempted it, only to have their lives fall apart because envy and jealousy raises its head. Envy is far more dangerous than jealousy in my opinion, because jealousy can be worked on, envy is something that is felt to the core and can lead to dangerous results. The fact of it all is that the government and enforcement are ripping entire families apart with no thought to how it is effecting children. They're under this belief that they're "rescuing" the children. It's something to think about, because it toys with the idea that someone else or organization can decide what you do with your children and your home. This doesn't just effect polygamists or fundamentalists.
@muurisoras58783 жыл бұрын
@@markrobinson891 I agree with you 💯. The issue I have with polygamy is lack of limit. What if a man marries 100 women & each produces 15 to 20 children which is very possible given the age these girls are married off & expected to give birth to as many offsprings as possible this you will inherit the kingdom of heaven? What does that do to human race?
@markrobinson8913 жыл бұрын
@@muurisoras5878 The Warren Jeffs “cult” (and i have absolutely no qualms using that term) is fortunately an extreme anomaly. I think we would find statistically polygamous women throughout history (as in LDS history) had fewer children per woman than did the monogamous women in the church and the general populace not of the faith. I have a fascinating book about the history of women’s rights in general and women’s suffrage in specific growing out of the early Utah church of Jesus Christ. Many strong, independent, forward thinking women entered the world of social and political issues because other women were available but more importantly chose to stay home and rear children of the same father. I think everyone knows that virtually zero members of the LDS church today practice polygamy. Warren Jeffs introduced a bastardized, (excuse me I just sneezed) apostate, mutation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints or any other religion. He was, is a lunatic who is where he belongs unless maybe under some rehab program. I feel profound sadness for his followers who were duped.
