From the 23rd to the 25th of March (Friday to Sunday), Alcoutim (Portugal) and Sanlúcar de Guadiana (Spain) reinvented the tradition again, living 3 days of great cultural animation, where both villages were scenery for the parade of typical characters of the time and were linked by a floating bridge that allowed the pedestrian crossing on the Guadiana River.
Smugglers, tax guards and carabiners, street vendors and masters of other trades presented the goods to the people of the land, living in the taverns, social satire and exchange of information, popular games and brawls of staff among other characters who populated the streets , and the individualities, which are now part of history, have gained new life and made themselves known, allowing visitors to travel back in time, and to relive the history of the Raia do Guadiana region.
The performance of street shows (music, circus arts, theater, etc.), with national and international artists, of quality and reference, with stages distributed in the historical zone of the two villages, in areas of relevant scenic interest, Rio Guadiana were attractive for the visit to the Festival. Along the streets were also the craft market, the fair, numerous artists in movement, taverns and stalls with local gastronomy.
The program of the event also included musical shows, arruado, ethnographic parades, workshops, exhibitions, meeting of Popular Poetry, photo contest and Contraband Days. This year, the program featured musical performances on the three nights of the event, with Fado Violado, the concert with Roncos do Diabo and closing the concert with the Moçoilas.
This year's edition brought together some 50 cultural proposals, including music, circus arts, plastic arts, theater, which have been able to give a lot of imagination, evoking various themes related to the socio-cultural heritage and traditions of the region of Alcoutim and Sanlúcar de Guadiana, in the contraband and its importance to the region.
The event was organized by the Alcoutim City Council in partnership with the Ayltamiento Sanlúcar de Guadiana, with the support of the Government of Portugal, Turismo de Portugal, Algarve Tourist Region, 365 Algarve, Junta de Andalucía and Mancomunidad de Beturia.
