I would love to hear Eric Clapton’s “Riding With The King” album with BB King on the RT 81+. I can just imagine how sweet it would be to hear the difference between their playing and Clapton’s single coil pickups vs BB King’s hum bucker pickups

Hey Chris! It’s been too long since we were attacked!! Glad you’re back! The first album is a hard one, but I would have to choose a boxed set of Nat King Cole on white vinyl. My father and I would listen together when I was a kid and just never stopped. He’s gone now but to this day hearing Nat sing still brings me joy!!

I've been collecting vinyl for about 2 years, and I have yet to upgrade from my suitcase record. Don't worry, I can count on my hands the amount of times I've used it, as it was graduation gift. I really want something entry level and help me learn more about the audio world. It seems theirs a lot of customization and it can upgrade in quality and preformance down the road. I want something reliable and good. something that I can trust to play the vinyls ive been collecting for awhile. awesome review, very informative and clear! Edit: I saw the giveaway at the end, I'd play Koi No Yokan or Diamond Eyes by Deftones.

First Album I would play is... "Panorama" album by The Cars (1980) I had a Fluance RT-85 (bought brand-new in mid '21) used it for about two years and then one day it stopped working in '23. The mechanism that should engage the turntable rotation when the arm is moved into position stopped working. All trouble-shooting failed so there it is...to quote Dr. McCoy "He's dead Jim." Luckily, i have a backup turntable in the form of a U-Turn Audio custom- (black plinth, acrylic platter, Ortofon 2M Red cartridge, lift-lever and a built-in Pluto 2 preamp) I bought it as a lightly-used turntable over 3 years ago; the original owner bought it new the previous year. I upgraded the cartridge to an Ortofon 2M Blue, and it's connected to a Schiit Mani 2 phono preamp. The only thing I miss is the adjustable feet option, which I can mitigate by purchasing the feet upgrade from UTurn Audio. it hasn't failed me yet. Is Fluance a bad manufacturer? Not necessarily...but in my case I'm one of the unlucky ones that got a brand new RT-85 that was lightly used when owned, which ultimately failed, so even the better companies can and will disappoint on occasion. Will I buy from them again? No. Hence Moony is now a U-Turn Audio man, but that's just me. 😜

Oh, man... I know exactly the first album I'd play on the RT81+. Growing up, my dad regularly pulled out an album I later found out was a bit rare and pretty much unknown. It was an album by a saxophone player who played with Lionel Hampton, Herbie Fields. This was his favorite album by far, and he had a large collection. When my dad was in the hospital dying of cancer, I recorded the album onto CD and brought it up for him to listen. It was the last thing I was able to do for him, as he passed away later that night. That album makes me so happy, yet makes me so sad thinking of losing my dad. His record collection was passed down to me, and I still own "Fields In Clover." It would be an honor to make that record my first spin on my new 81+... and would transport me back to being a kid, watching my dad lean back in his easy chair, eyes closed, listening to Herbie Fields.

Nice review. I have the RT82 with an upgraded acrylic platter. Alongside the OM10, I also have... a VMN95E cart/stylus on a non Fluance headshell. Why not a Fluance headshell? At €30 for the headshell, it suddenly becomes €130 with import duty and packing/delivery to Ireland...no local dealers stock Fluance...so I understand them not wanting to include overseas viewers in their giveaway. You are spot on with regards to the tracking ability of the AT set up vs the Ortofon offering. I prefer the AT. Possibly due to the predominantly 1980's vintage records I play mostly. It's not a great amount of spend to get into that AT range of styli in comparison to some other brands. Next on the list for me is an ML stylus...and possibly a RigB body swap...see what all the hype is about.

This couldn't have come at a greater time for me. I'm very much contemplating parting with my AT LPW50-PB for being noisy and purchasing an RT82. I don't want a built in phono preamp at all. My Denon stereo receiver will work until I upgrade to something better. I like my LPW50, but I've yet to isolate the 60Hz hum I'm getting. I've owned two other turntables (lp60x & technics sl-b10) which didn't hum on my system.
