I was surprised to see FN come out with the redesigned High Power. I wonder if the knew Springfield Armory was introducing one too. It will be interesting to see how the market dynamics develop.

Interesting handgun that has surely passed the test of time. Wanted one since I was a kid and finally bought one before Browning quit offering it. Hopefully the new offerings will correct some minor complaints with the design. I wish it success and would love to shoot the new FN. Thank you and take care!

First off, thankyou for a very informative, simple and short video. I love the Hi Power. I have an original Browning that I shot and carried for years. Fact is the HP cannot do it better than many other guns but that doesn't make it irrelevant. It's cool, it's neat, it's all those things. This one, IDK. A 21st century upgrade without two key features for the 21st century shooter - a light rail and optics cut. If you want the piece of history for you collection and safe; buy an original (sounds like same price) or the SA. If you're looking to defend your family or shoot competition, this gun can* do it but you can probably do it better with something else. Hopefully this will get more HP's on the market and maybe help bring down the costs of the originals and SA's.

there is also a british company looking to make a slightly updated, boutique version of the hp called the "defiance" i believe

Bad idea. The standard Hi power, with the thinnest grips available, was/is ~1.10” wide. That’s Glock 48 width. Not worth turning it into a 2x4 for +2 rounds. One of its biggest advantages was being a very small full sized handgun. That’s like turning a 15 round factory G48 into a G19. Why?
@kfeltenberger3 жыл бұрын
The light rail isn't an issue for me...I understand and respect their utility, but on a handgun, I refuse to use them for a variety of reasons. The optics cut likewise isn't an issue for me...just as it isn't for most people. Yes, it is the "cool new thing", but the reality of spending $500-$1000+ on a pistol and then dropping another $500+ on an optic is a bit much. Maybe if I had a job that required that I carry or was some sort of operator (for real or only to LARP) I might have a different opinion. As for your comment about defending your family...there are a lot of people who have been put in boxes by the original Hi-Power and countless others that don't have the current "must have" dinguses.

I like it, but if they were gonna go full update, where’s the 1913 accessory rail and optics mount cut? Also the hole in the front of the slide for the guide rod seems unnecessary. Should’ve left it sealed there.

The High Power Mk IV shouldn't impact prices of the older classics but it is an evolution of an old master. 17=1 and a take down lever gives you a gun that competes with the cz75 p01. This is a very interesting new pistol; I will probably get one in stainless

This won’t affect original Hi Power collectibility. 1911s are a perfect example. Everyone makes them but yet Collector/ Historic 1911s still bring top dollar. I’m glad to see FN starting production and I think it’s a great idea to modernize it.

I was initially really excited about it, but the more I learn about it, the more my enthusiasm wanes. If they ever hit sub $1K street price, I'll think about it, but I think I'm going to try to snag a cheap used SA-35 from the inevitable wave of gun owners that want to "upgrade" to the FN.

Thank you for your informative video. I hope this new FN High Power is successful but I'm planning to buy the Springfield SA-35 since I already have an Argentine FM 'Hi-Power' and a classic FN P-35. The Springfield will be able to use standard magazines I already have plus most standard P-35 parts that are widely available. Its improved trigger and sights are icing on the cake.

Bad idea. The standard Hi power, with the thinnest grips available, was/is ~1.10” wide. That’s Glock 48 width. It’s actually slightly thinner. Why they would turn it into a 2x4 for +2 rounds is beyond me. One of its biggest advantages was being a very small full sized 9mm - both for shooters with smaller hands and to be carried.
@richty38452 жыл бұрын
It is NOT a Hi Power. It's a whole new gun, way wider. FN is just riding the Name HI Power. The Girsan is the way to go, since it actually works, as opposed to the Springfield.
@legalboy713 жыл бұрын
If the year was 2600 an original High Point, a clone, and this one would make a nice historical collection. But in the life of anyone alive, or even their great grandchildren, this new one will be something some people buy but most don't and irrelevant to the original.
@dennisl40002 жыл бұрын
I do like the HP and have one from back in the early 1980's. The feel of the gun is great and the accuracy is mediocre at best and consequently has been rarely shot over the years. Going forward I may consider another one, but only if it is offered in an optic ready version. Personally, I would lean more toward SA rather than FN because of the more traditional design, safety, and price point. However, in the final analysis both makes need to get more widely distributed and reviewed before a conclusion can be reached.
