Concert work based on the Ray Bradbury short story of the same name. I want to convey a sense of waves in the dynamics as well as rising/falling figures. The recurring horn/tub bell figure represents the fog horn that calls out to the great beast of the dark depths. While the piece is tonally unstable, I want to give it a somber tone with some pathos as Bradbury's original story is very poignant if not sad. It's not horrific but tale of a creature out of its time.

Excellent piece, David. Really impressed with the sound that you were able to achieve out of MuseScore.

I love how you constantly create tension through rising and falling chromatic lines, almost feels like a Shepard's tone!

I also hear lots of John Adams similarities, great piece!

@@charliev906 thank you for your kind comments. 🙏 the trumpet figure in the last section was inspired by Ives’ Unanswered Question but I can see how it evokes the sonorities of Adam’s’ Anfortus Wound from Harmonielehre.

Thank you! MuseSounds present some challenges with balance and dynamics. Winds are too loud and brass don’t have the same range as most other sample libraries. But I managed to wrestle them into behaving enough to convey what I wanted to musically with this piece. :)

@@soundtreksGreat work David, I enjoined listening to this composition. I have to say that the MuseSounds overall are good and I concord with the fact that there are some balance issues. Let's trust that in a future update the MuseScore team will address this balance issues among orchestral instrument families and single instruments... All the very best, MaxT
