yeah, but the tory bill was based on the proposed law labour announced in 2022. The tories tried to reject the need for a regulator at the time insisting that self regulation was sufficient. But then in 2023 the tories succumbed to pressure and introduced a version of the labour proposal in that years kings speech. But then failed to actually put in the effort to make it happen. And now labour aren't carrying the tory bill forward, they are putting through their own law. So thats a lot of fairly irrelevant backstory to fit into an 8 minute video. Ultimately it's a labour idea, and now labour are going to pass it into law. Thats enough information for most people

@sarabafriend470122 күн бұрын
its because its funtioncally impossible to impose a salary cap on a global sport without international cooperation from literally every top/ all the highest paying leagues. As a massive football fan, this bill is precisely what the sport needs. It’s been clear enough for long enough that the PL and its respective clubs cannot adequately self-regulate to account for all of the moving parts in this ecosystem. It’s been clear for a long time that this hurts the sporting product for us fans, and that long term sustainability is hampered.

Its ultimately a move in the right direction. But regular supporters as a percentage of the population involved in football is declining especially at grass roots level. Ultimately where people have choice they tend to go for other entertainment as choice increases. As a qualifier I mean very long term there is no issue in the next few decades for football falling apart.

The key error here, that was exploited this season by several clubs is the academy players being sold. A good Academy graduate is on the books at all clubs at zero value. If teams A and B swap academy players for £20 million then both clubs show a profit of $20 million on the deal So each club has players on their books that they developed and they collectively have a value of zero until sold. So this 'value of our academy players' is off the books. So Nttm. Forest sold Brennan Johnson to Spurs and his entire transfer fee was a profit. (If you looked at the chart of Championship teams, you'd see that Forest was the second worst in finances. So selling Johnson made up most of that deficit. This categorically isn’t the governments job. They have and always will have much more important things to worry about. There is 0 need for the government to exert this kind of control over sports. If clubs will fail, let them, they’ll learn their lesson.
