The answer is foot injuries. There's footballers older than him still active today but Michu's feet are now self-described as "My body's 36, but the feet are 86" or something of that nature involving how damaged and worn out the feet are. Edit: He works in the front office for his youth club.

whilst slightly different (more similar to Oscar) I'd like to talk a moment about Ben Marshall he's a RM/RB, his career started with Stoke, bunch of loans later he get's a transfer to Leicester, playing 56 games in the Championship, before moving to Blackburn, a further 126 games in the Championship, he then goes to Wolves, this is where the wheels fall off a bit, Wolves a bit higher up, he's deemed not good enough, only playing 22 games still in the Championship, gets a loan to Millwall and impresses (still in the Championship mind you), end of the season, Wolves go up and wanna sell him, 2 clubs want him, the aforementioned Millwall, who really wanted to retain him after a reasonably impressive loan spell, and Norwich, who offer more money, he goes Norwich, plays 4 games before moving back to Millwall on loan in Jan, plays 16 games for Millwall, but they don't want him this time, he wasn't as good, didn't really help off the ball (which is what made his first spell with Millwall so good) he's then delisted by Norwich, no other Championship side takes him, so he drops.............to Stoneclough in the TWELFTH DIVISION, he apparently remains there today, 3 years on, but it's hard to tell seeings as no info is released that low this man literally dropped 10 divisions, and honestly, he was good enough for League One, League Two at the absolute worst, under the right system still could easily play in the Championship, but he just went "hmmm, this 12th tier side is pretty tempting"

Spain has a few of these guys, not drifting quite as low but rather the product of "I'd rather play in my local area at the highest level club interested" than play 2-3 divisions higher in a distant province/autonomous region for only a bit more pay.

@@Eibarwoman I do agree we see cases like that everywhere, but this one is ridiculous, and I mean, made even more baffling when you consider he was born in Salford, this was when Salford had money but were still non league, I'm not sure if National League North or National League at the exact time, you'd think he'd drop there not all the way down to Tier 12

Isco for me. Before 2018 he was one of the best midfielders in the world. Was a golden boy for Spanish national team and was one of the main players for Real Madrid. Post 2018 his performance and stats just fell of the edge of the earth. He is a bit-part player for Sevilla at 30 now.

I'm Irish and I remember that whole Stephen Ireland thing. It was mad. I have no idea why he actually did that? Did he ever give an excuse? Was it because he wanted to go on the piss or something!? People were out for blood because there's thousands of kids who'd give their left nut to pull on that jersey but he seemingly had better things to do. And the way he tried to get out of it was despicable. If he didn't want to play, why didn't he just not play? Or if you're going to lie at least say you have an injury or something. Claiming a dead granny member was actually outrageous.
