It’s time to talk about, maybe the most debated topic in women’s football, equality.
When the topic equal pay is raised it often leads to heated discussions between two
camps. One camp, the faithful supporters and athletes, who understand the level of
sacrifice and effort female athletes have to put into their sport, often with more obstacles
in their way than their male counterparts. But not only that, they also understand that it
takes investments to elevate the game. The other camp sits on the argument of simple
economics; you don’t attract the same crowds, TV and sponsorship deals so why would
you get paid the same. But is it really about equal pay? And what do we mean by that
term?
Joining us today is Chelsea and Denmark forward Pernille Harder, Denmark and PSG forward Nadia Nadim and our host, Rocky Hehakaija.
This is the Football Podcast from WePlayStrong - where we’re gonna chat about some of the biggest challenges in the game with some of the biggest stars in the game.

I think Pernille Harder should run for Danish Football Federation president in the future.

Nadia is just a superstar, to go through what she has especially in her early life to get to where she is now, speaking 11 languages is very impressive and learning to become a doctor. She is like an information station. very knowledgeable and a true inspiration.

The Equal Pay fight to me seems very obviously evident here in America just in coverage and media attention alone. They often don't televise National team matches or even NWSL matches on the regular. If you go to a national news source for 'Soccer' there will be 90 stories about the men's game vs two on the Women. Resources, and respect are a big part of that Equal Pay debate, and Professional Women Footballers deserve their due! Really hard working kick ass impressive ladies. Like give these hard working Amazonians what they have clearly earned! (I prefer the women over the men, don't y'all wanna profit from this? There are fans, you just have to open the door! The game could be even bigger than it already is, if these bigwigs will allow!)

The reality is that in most affluent countries football as a women's sport was bigger than men's but the regulating bodies were run by men so to be able to promote men's football they banned girls and women from playing. So in effect women's football was held back for about 70 years.

When the women talk about equal pay, with the exception of a few. They are asking for professional contracts that mean they can afford to live off of their income as a player rather than having to subsidise their playing career with a job that pays the bills. Equal pay for almost all players means having the same opportunity to earn a real living from playing football just like the men.

But you can't ask private clubs to pay women more if they can't generate enough for such wages.

Unfortunately to be a top women’s team you need to be tied to a top men’s club, subject to the whims of a rich ( male) owner. This all still feels pretty precarious. Need more women on the top tables making governance decisions for the sport. It IS chiefly about money, but anyone who says there is no money to be made to sustain the game is a fool ( or doesn’t want to see it happen) - marketing and promotion ,both globally and within clubs, is pretty poor ( where’s my Viv poster ? of my Arsenal girls calendar?). Global interest/ potential market is huge. It’s that promotion and marketing of the game, in order to get people going to see their local teams that is key ( not just trying to keep the elite teams surviving ).It’s all about building a sustainable structure , and you can’t wait for the old men on top of the game to start thinking about this.

*The legal battle of the USWNT (the United States Women National Team) is to obtain equal pay for their team, not for the rest of the players of the NWSL (US National Women Soccer League). They argue that the US Men National Team has not won four World Cups and three or four Olympic medals. If you are a player of the US National Team, you should get as much as the men are getting, they say. They are not contending that the women players in the national league should get equal pay. They are realistic concerning this as women's matches do not attract as many fans as the men's games.*

Miss harder wants same facilities as Cristiano girl you yourself said that you use to travel alot for training At least you had money to travel Cristiano use to work as cleaner and his father talk with academy wich they use to clean give him a chance to train whatever he is today it's because of his hard work he also had to prove to the world that he is good enough to play premier league football so he achieved his contract he didn't go and asked fergi to sign him not like you guys who are saying we also want same things as them nothing is easy in life you have to achieved it if you guys football is not entertaining than make it and earn your money Ronaldo Messi are not big players and erners beacuse they are men's is because they compete at highest level and score goals in highest level if women's football is slow and not entertaining than make it fast and entertaining than you will atomicly see the results nothing is easy in life boys also do suffer because lack of academy and coaches it's not like onlygirls have that problem

How disappointing that after listening to the discussion you learned nothing, she never that or you didn’t understand and also nobody said life was easy for everyone they’re not talking about the place or the situation you’re born into but there are many places for boys to learn sports while being young and they get opportunities on big teams, most of the big teams have an academy for the little boys but not for girls. You can only do so much as a woman if you’re a footballer, when you’re a man and you get to a team, it doesn’t matter if it’s in the UK or Mexico, you get more opportunities and better income, you see this young players that basically have done nothing yet but they’re “promises” or in the bench and they can already afford a car that’s worth a million dollars. You can’t expect to see women playing at the same level than men do because they don’t get the same treatment, facilities, insurances, income (a lot have to have a separated job to live). It’s a process and when you see the teams that have invested more in their women’s team you see the results, it’s great to watch Lyon, Wolfsburg, Barça, Chelsea, Man City, PSG, Arsenal, and some others play because they’re good now and they’ve worked hard to get to where they are, don’t minimize it.
