As a Boy of 12 ,coming from a totally destroyed City of Berlin in 1956 i came to my Uncle in Hertfortshire into a Paradise and he had exactly this Car in Black. Now i am 80 and i remember so much !

Indeed, we had one, our father bought a used one for my elder brother. Many happy memories from my adolescent days.

Stationed at Holy Loch in 1970 I owned a 1959 Popular, in the blue as shown in the video. I enjoyed the car very much and left it behind with another sailor when I left Scotland. 'Henry Ford Popular' was the first car I owned.

A black ford "sit up and beg" ford pop was my parent's first "brand new 2nd hand car" registration number SMB 4, I think we were the first household in the street to own a car, I remember all the neighbors came out to watch mum practising driving in the street... Dad used to clean and polish it after every drive, and mum wasn't allowed to drive it in the rain in case it got too dirty......

I had one as my first car in New Zealand, which I think my dad bought to stop me borrowing his new Holden about 1975. Did me & my school mates proud, wish I still had it. Never realised there were only about 7000 of them outside the UK.

A good, to-the-point presentation Harley. With only 10hp, I can see why your car just barely made 40mph, even with Dad's foot firmly planted on the floor.
@GooseDave Жыл бұрын
The 10HP was a horsepower tax rating based upon a formula devised by the RAC in 1910. This actual car would have been about 36bhp in reality. The formula was D x D x 4 over 2.5 in this car's case.

Mine made 45mph but that was totally scary.

My first car was a ford popular. I bought it for a fiver from a fellow apprentice as the rear differential had gone on it. Removed the old diff in the driveway and exchanged with a cash make up for a non damaged one at a scrappies in Prestwick and had myself a car.

It got my Dad on the road in 1959. The roof always leaked, and I still remember the click clock sound of the single vacuum wiper. I think the painted metal dash was better than the bakelite on on the previous Anglia. My Dad bought a KL heater and Uncle George fitted it, only to realise that a water pump was needed as well,(the thermo syphon cooling system would not circulate the water). I still have the Ford handbook on it, with the numerous greasing points to be done every thousand miles.

Thanks Harley - that was a great video. They were / are lovely little cars and such an icon and it's great to still see them at shows. Well done - please do more videos like this :-)

Another well-research video which I think like the last is chronologically out of sequence due to either my old lap top or my technical incompetence! Non-the-less enjoyable! Thank you. Rob

Drive one as our local police car back in the early 60s. Hammered hell out of it but it never broke.

Great video. It was really nice to see my old car in there too 584UXP. The photograph used was taken before I owned it when it was on display at the East Anglian Railway Museum 👍 Wish I had never let it go

Back in the day I used to own one. I soon learned the art of double declutching so that you could change into first, necessary for a loaded car going up a steep hill. It was impossible to keep it driving in a straight line over 40mph!

I purchases a 1958 Pop for 25Pounds in 1969 from a local Ford dealership,who had given the previous owner the part exchange value. They just needed to get the 25 pounds back. The engine died slowly on me,and as a teenager,I could not afford a new engine so was forced to scrap it,a shame ,because the body was excellent.

Oh wow Harley, that ended to suddenly. Great video though. My uncle had a Pop and it was a thrill to be taken out for a ride in it. I was saying to your Dad, I saw him at the retro show (recognised the hat!) but he disappeared into the crowd like a Ninja 😂 was going to say hello. Some great stands there, especially the barn finds, and lots of shiny tools. 🤗

Thanks for watching, I always try and make these types of videos quite short so that more people can watch them. Sadly I didn't make it to the resto show at the NEC, I prefer to go to events where the cars are moving or racing. I appreciate the cars there and sure it'd be great to go but dad also went, we try and to different things on our channels just so that it avoids too much duplication between the channels. :)

Would question the "10 horsepower" statement; my 125cc motorbike develops 15 BHP. I think you mean 10 RAC horsepower (the measurement system used for taxation purposes between 1910 and 1947).
@CarTractionvids4 ай бұрын
Yes I meant ten horsepower, as opposed to the ten brake-horsepower which would be the actual power of the engine
