I had an ex taxi AU Falcon which clicked over a million in kms, ran on lpg, and never ever skipped a beat. She was an absolute dream of a car. Completely changed me from a Holden girl to loving my Ford. Most reliable car that a young single mum could have ever wished for.

i have a mate that has been a taxi driver all his life. has a few licences now (not worth much these days). Anyways i know him from a FPV car club. i was complaining that my BF F6 ticked over 200k. He was like its a new car until it clicks over the clock.
@pwrrpw3194 күн бұрын
An X taxi company owner once told me, the reason we run Falcons over crummy doors, is simple, doing a million Kms , with the Fords you might replace the engine once maybe & the gearbox once probably, vs the crappy door that would go through two engines & three gearbox's at least!!!
@biggin90773 күн бұрын
@@pwrrpw319 had a XF wagon for work as a field tech. Went through 3 gear boxes and 4 power steering units, but it didn't bother me as those gearboxes were so cheap, $350 plus install. Traded the XF after almost half a million km for an EF and clocked up another 400 000 km. That EF was brilliant, almost no issues, then gave it to a mate who was having hard times and he clocked up another 100 000km until he crashed it. I stupidly passed the on the AU and bought a BA, which I still have after 18 years, but it's only clocked up 340 000 km.

Add a third AU to the taxi list. When I bought my cab service,(country Victoria), my first taxi was one. 650,000 miles on clock before the thing got tired everywhere else. Motor was fine!!! Last cab was a Ford BF wagon. I kept it when I sold taxi service. I still have it in yard. I drove it to Darwin! Still has its chequerboard reflective stripes on it. No shit. Straight up the guts of Australia. It has over 650,000 on clock. Still in paddock after a lot of heavy work. Only reason it's not going is because the starter motor died!!! And, just in case anyone's going to challenge the truth of this post, it is well known here. The whole town knew. The only reason that I said this was because a bloody film came out one. Totally coincidence and for reasonably similar conditions. Was ex husband that had a terminal illnes. I digress. AU Fords. Legendary!

Wow what an awesome story , although I'm not sure I understood all of it, but I feel like I want to know more, is the beast still with you ? still licensed even ?, I would offer to help get her back up & running, especially if it's only a starter motor, even though that's crazy talk as I am in WA, but still..... it's Australia Day & I'm half cut :) so........ :))))) cheers , Paul From Western Australia.

@@pwrrpw319 Yes. She's still in my yard. The BF, I mean. Still has her stripes. She's a legend. Still has Darwin dirt and sand in it! In case one wants to check. Both were exceptional. Also, all drivers were told that I wasn't a mechanic. Don't bother me with it. Just get if fixed if problem. Why bother me? Meant cabs were up to every service, driven carefully. Country miles. I live in the Southern suburbs of Adelaide, I had no job for six years , I landed a job early last year picking up empty pallets for Best Bricks and Pavers at Winfield. I started off with a 1999 Toyota Camry with a rusty six by four trailer but could only hold five at a time,then I told my wife that I needed to buy a Ute, she asked if I can get one for 3000 bucks, I found a late 2002 red AU Falcon one tonner with tradesman logos on the cab ,it had 260000 kilometres on it when I picked it up just after Easter 2024 now it's done 285000 kilometres has not missed a beat , it was a one owner as well from Goolwa, it's got a li🎉bit of rust here and there which I will cut out and weld pieces in , good investment.

30 years ago we used to call the AU an XD/E/F. $600 on the side of the road with all the bells and whistles AND rego. From 1970-2010 "taxi" = Falcon. 1M k's wasn't unheard of. 1950s-60s Land Rovers had like 6 wires in them. The early Corollas, Pulsars etc had next nothing on them which made them super simple to work on and parts were everywhere. One of my sons is all about the Intech life and has his IG channel about it, but I'll stick with my BA MkII for a bit longer. I was after a bullbar, but they're almost impossible to find 2nd hand and they want $3500 for a new one!!! I paid $800 for the whole car lol.

To any doubters, I had an automatic AU and its t-bar controls for its transmission included UP and SIDEWAYS. So when the automatic gearboxes prove to have less-than-excellent durability, take that in to account. They had to remove those settings to stop people from having mental breakdowns but if you move the t-bar half the distance to REVERSE then push it towards the passenger seat as hard as you can, it will engage UP. You will need to really smash it or even kick it to make it work but don’t give up and make sure to video your efforts and post it on KZbin

I miss my old series 3 Fairmont wagon. I drove it from the Hunter valley to Victoria heaps of times, sent the ol girl sideways almost as much as the EF XR8 that I also had at the time and I constantly loaned it to friends and family earning it the name “the community wagon” or “town bike” since everyone had a ride. The balljoints knocked around a lot so we took it up Barrington tops and thrashed its ring out to try get them to pop out, even getting the bugger airborne. Never happened. I regretfully swapped it for an EF wagon and the new owner’s boyfriend at the time was towing a vt wagon when he lost it and wound up in a ditch. The nose was bent skyward making it unroadworthy but the damn thing still started and drove around just fine. The ball joints were still holding on too when we finally got rid of it after some paddock bashing in it.

Been running a private AU falcon shitpost/fanpage account on instagram revolving around my AU for a few weeks. I inherited from my grandpa and have only thus far had to replace two water pumps, two fan belts, an oil pressure sensor, and an indicator. Although I reckon the second water pump failure was due to shitty Chinese parts, regardless it’s been a great fucking car, especially being a P plater. Plus the hole in the muffler makes the 4 litre tyre eater sound like a V8, and will wake up an entire suburb with just a slight push of the peddle

Pretty good old car the AU series , particularly the series 2 and 3 , used mine for the family taxi and tow car for 15 years , bought it 2 years old , it had 17 years of service , 15 years of hard service , still ran like a clock with the same head gasket it left the factory with , still did not blow smoke when i finally retired her , the auto and diff still unopened until i retired her due to being left out in the aussie weather for 17 years , and with hail damage . I might add , the AU/XR6 had the best driving position , best pedal arrangement , best common sense knobs and buttons arrangement of any car i have ever driven , you can just reach for control without taking your eyes off the road unlike a stupid teslas and modern rubbish we get today where you have to play with touch screens . And i might add , the AU`s seats had good foam and seat design , you sit in them like a plush arm chair rather than on them like a lot of cars these days And they were dead easy to service , mine never saw the inside of a dealers workshop in all the time i had it . RIP the australian motor industry :( . Happy Australia day to all .
