The Forest is a fantastic, dark, crafting survival game. It is also quite challenging at the start to understand how to survive and all of the systems. In this complete beginners guide to The Forest, I will explain to you the basics from the ground up by starting a brand new single-player game so you can watch and even play along. I will explain the controls, the UI, the mechanics, how to craft, forage, fight, and explore the map. I detail my thought process, sharing tips and tricks along the way but I spoil nothing about the game or the story. I don't force a particular path or tell you to min/max, but rather help by providing the fundamentals so you can enjoy The Forest at your own pace. If you are thinking of buying the game and want to see early gameplay, or have purchased it but would like some pointers on the basics, this is the guide for you! I will be playing with no mods--vanilla The Forest!

There is no need to equip food to add it to a fire. Press R to cycle through possible items to add to a fire then press c

You don't need to go around the tree to chop it down, the crafted axe is better than the plane axe
