"Watteau was painting a nymph in a grotto, when he put up a sign 'Defense de touchez' to warn off Dufy" - well made me laugh...I wanted to thank you so much for this series. I am learning so much about the painters as well as about painting (Art History was an evening class and more than once I nodded off). Having worked as a Graphic Designer I have now retired and want to let my inner painter loose. Thank you again for all the inspiration and knowledge

Don't know if others have said, didn't read them all..... Green Frog masking tape does great for this hard edge stuff. It chemically seals it self to the canvas with hardly NO burnishing. Used it often. A wonder.

The 'small industrial town in North Yorkshire...?' Surely you mean Bradford which in 1955 was the world centre of the wool trade and which is in West Yorkshire. I suppose for a forger it is close enough though.

A forgery master become a con teacher. Great.
@wendygoerl91627 жыл бұрын
Students have ALWAYS copied the masters. And there's always been a market for copies of masterworks whose owners won't sell the originals (although that's become something of an endangered species with the advent photography). It's only a problem when you claim them as originals.
@taylorj61775 жыл бұрын
I agree. Though he obv has "talent," something about the host's personality is off-putting to be. He's a bit too brash or something. Perhaps that is the "prison life" coming through from his days in lock up; or, perhaps he was always that way. Idk. Good show nonetheless.
@carsonscott2605 жыл бұрын
toomanynames i’ve watched this a lot, i think the problem is that he desperately wants to be seen as a teacher, and wants the contestants to assume a student role where they see him as the master. it doesn’t really work though because it’s a 30 minute tv show and i doubt they’re there because they desperately want to learn how to paint a hockney
@ms.christian77924 жыл бұрын
tsk, what this teacher MISSED was that the great success Laura had in her painting was the MOVEMENT. The building is leaving at top left, the pool is leaving bottom right. It's a fantastic push-pull with the splash in the middle to articulate the angst of both other parts pulling away. Which tells me, he doesn't know crap. Ha! Sorry. I mean he really missed the best moment... the fleeing little water running away off the canvas bottom right. He is a forgery himself who really is a bluff and knows nothing. AND he pickes out the BUSHES AS BEST???!!! How he got this master class I will never understand. tsk. He's a copier, not a creator it seems.

Hopeless exercise in futility. What is the point? Take out the history induced technique critique and you are left with the image and just an image. You make art by making art and not copying other artists. Take what you need and leave the rest.
