Thanks for the loading and I would like to add. Maggie L. Walker, the first African American woman to charter a bank in the U.S., was one of its most notable residents. Her bank, the St. Luke Penny Savings Bank, empowered Black residents economically. Then the government stepped in. Interstate 95 and 64 highways, divided the neighborhood and displaced many residents. Coupled with economic shifts and the effects of desegregation, the area experienced a decline.
