The single tri-wing screw was probably just a cost saving measure. You can't get the thing apart without removing all of the screws, so only one of them really needed to be a security screw. Regular Philips screws (probably JIS actually) were likely a lot cheaper.

A world with more gameboy competitors readily available feels like such an interesting timeline. I wonder what would have been for Gameboys had that been the case more often. Glad to see handhelds be a much more prominent market in recent times.
@Toonrick12 Жыл бұрын
I think the reason why the GameBoy was so dominant was because of its low price and very long battery life. By the time competitors caught up with those two, Nintendo had already released Pokémon Red and Blue/Green. Nintendo was half way across the Milky Way when others were on the Moon.

@jamessilva1259 Жыл бұрын
@@Toonrick12 you nailed it. GameGear, and lynx has color LCD, but you would be lucky, if the 6x AA batteries last over 3 hours. Making you 100% dependant on AC adapter or Cigarette Adapter(Passenger) you can rule out being able to play it on a go, like waiting at bus stop, etc. As for Gameboy, you got 15 hours 30 hours with very good alkaline batteries. Even GameBoy Color gives Average of 10 hours. This allowed Nintendo to dominate in the portable game department. They nearly had no effective Competition. And when you finally get a console like NeoGeo that could compete in performance, they unfortunately do NOT have as many games or fame to challenge, is the way I see it.
@jeffgoodnough9704 Жыл бұрын
@@Toonrick12Snk took a shot with their Pokémon-inspired TCG franchise, but it was obvious they didn't have the resources to compete. Had Card Fighters' Clash offered a similar depth of gameplay to Pokémon, the GBA generation of handhelds would have been a wild time...

The Wonderswan swan is real forgotten Game Boy being that it was created by Gunpei Yokoi the same guy who created the Game Boy for Nintendo. The WonderSwan is a handheld game console released in Japan by Bandai. It was developed by Gunpei Yokoi's company Koto Laboratory and Bandai, and was the last piece of hardware Yokoi developed before his death in 1997.

The annoying thing though is that replacement switches for the micro joystick are no longer available. I'm pretty sure alternatives exists but this truly a shame. After all it is arguably the best thing ever for fighting games outside of hitboxes Also: always, always clean the switches and lever as some debris tends to accumulate over time which leads to early failure

I still am too nervous on doing soldering myself and afraid I might burn something so if I was to get a neo geo pocket would rather buy a pre modded one instead to be safer.
@fenikso Жыл бұрын
The soldering on this console is about the easiest you could possibly do. The solder pads are nice and large and are all clearly marked on the MoBo. That being said: I get it, if you've never done soldering before it can be a little overwhelming to do it to an increasingly expensive niche console. I'd suggest, if you ever do decide you want to do your own soldering, to buy a few 'assemble yourself' DIY soldering kits to practice on. Cool to also get pre-builts, if learning to solder is not your bag.

Thing is, the NGP(C) is the most satisfyingly-designed handheld of all time. It's comfortably chunky, with that niche at the bottom of the back side for your fingers to rest in and support the console. The D-stick is my second-favorite directional input, and while I prefer the Saturn's D-pad for playing, the D-stick is enjoyable enough to be fun without even powering the console on. Analogue pocket can't give you that and no emulation device feels that good; I'd love to see SNK get back into the hardware market with a similarly-designed device.

Instead of a 4mm hex bit, just drop the bare bit in the screw hole and then partially insert the bit driver. Well, you should probably stuff it with a wadded paper scrap so that you can apply pressure. It will also keep the magnet from sucking up the bit.

I always found it strange how people were smart enough to come up with these mods, but still can't come up with screen mods that just fit, where you don't have to hack apart your housing like that and some Game Boy models. But I guess it does force you to also get a replacement housing, so you don't destroy the original.
