By the way, these men are not acting. We captured this very real moment during a retreat in New Mexico. I am so grateful that these two men - Marck and Ed - shared so much of themselves with us.

The TV show "The Last of Us" (Season 1 on HBO Max, 2023) had an episode with Nick Offerman and Murray Abraham playing two men very much like these two. That episode was one of the best pieces of television I've ever seen.

It seems we are always forgotten whenever something major happens! I don't think it is on purpose to be honest, I just think that our straight friends think of us, or our loved ones, but the general population never seems to say, "What about the LBGT Community". Our relationships seem to be marginalized by those who lack understanding, but do not take it personally! Your love for your close love's never die! It's like energy, it cannot be created or destroyed but only changed from one form to another, and that goes for those straight people whos hearts have been broken, but little acknowledged as well! This has been a horrific year of loss for so many, our older ones that we could not sit by, our family members that we could be with, just so, so much tragic has been seen these past few years! I have been asking our pure source of all love to help heal your heart, and the hearts of us all. Thank you for sharing this - It is highly valuable!

Steve, Richard, Rob just three of the wonderful men we lost. One I loved, one loved me and the third I found lying in an A&E unit waiting for a nurse willing to help drain the boils on his back in ‘85 when I was a student nurse. Only when I saw his face did I know he was my friends new boyfriend. Steve died in shame and fear because he was in the military and when they found out his diagnosis he was dishonourably discharged. Richard got kept in isolation in a prison when he got sent down for fraud. Intimacy is tough when you came out in the dark years of the AIDS crisis. We lost our innocence and none of us was left either infected or affected.

As a guy who lived through that I have found that younger gay men who did not actually do not care about it and do not care about the abuse and discrimination we went through either. I was a clinical psychologist in LA for decades and found this to be true among clients as well as among folks I met socially
@terraespiritus48953 жыл бұрын
It's ironic because the older men I've dealt with have been some of the rudest, narrow-minded and racist bunch I've ever seen. Even when I genuinely tried to understand them and show compassion. I always got shot down simply for my skin tone and for not living up to some lame stereotype regarding Latinos. So older gay men are far from being saints. I still don't "hate" or avoid older men, but I think older gay men can learn from the younger generation and we from them.

I don’t know how you can watch it in the US but in the UK Channel 4 released a series called “It’s a Sin” last year. All about HIV in the 1980’s. It’s an incredible series, I laughed and cried the whole way through it. It follows a group of 20yr olds during the AIDS pandemic. Just made it so so real to me, something we never learnt about in school. My heart hurts knowing the pain friendship groups went through. I have so many friends in the Gay community and all I can think about is how that could have been us if we were born 15 years earlier.

Wow that video cuts deep but it is so beautiful. I was lucky, I came out at 19 in 1985 so I got the information on how HIV is spread. It still kept me a virgin until I was nearly 20. But then I came to realize having fantastic safe sex was a way of giving the virus the finger. I remember my friend Keith and I laughing about when there would FINALLY be a cure ... "we'll be old men in walkers going to the bar saying we're gonna have some sloppy sex TONIGHT!". Keith is no longer with us, but he lives in my memory. We lost a lot of funny and wonderful men like him.

Be proud of what has been accomplished, but don't allow yourself or others to become complacent. The Conservatives in the Far Right and the Christian Evangelicals are just as anti-LGBTQ as they were back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. They tend to be the group that goes around the country with amplified megaphones, working to defeat LGBTQ rights. They were not happy that Same-Sex marriage became the law of the land, and the word is that if they manage to take away women's rights to an abortion, then LGBTQ rights and same-sex marriage is high on their hit list. And all they really need is a majority in the House and Senate (or they get the home run and get both houses of Congress and the White House in the 2024 elections, and many of the politicians will cave to the loudest voices (even though they may not represent a majority opinion). Sorry to be political here, but we have to keep our eyes and minds open to what the far right is doing and to whom they plan to do it to.

Though the covid denial by president & co early on was not so different from the hiv/aids silence back then. It was easy to dismiss when it was a Chinese disease, early on. I guess things don't change so much after all. They only care when it's people they can't "other" who are dying.

This was beautiful, tender. Lost my husband suddenly 3 years ago, and I'm finally at a point that I feel I can move on now. But, I don't have a clue where to start. The dating scene today is much, much different than it was back in the 80s when I was in my twenties. Now it's grindr & Scruff... & it feels very unwelcoming to me being in my late 50s. I really miss that physical contact with another person, one that actually means something. I guess I'm just not built for whoring around, no judgement for those who do. What a stuck feeling I'm in?

Sometimes I wish I was white. As a gay Hispanic guy, it seems that my options are very limited and it decreases as you get older. Whereas with gay white men, you're desired no matter what. These two older men are so handsome, who couldn't love those two. I REALLY want to experience this so bad
@calvinbethea33693 жыл бұрын
Trying to sound sincere and not cliched is hard, so here goes. You are a unique occourance in space and time. What you have to offer no one else can give. Truly, healthfully learn to love your self, flaws and all. Learn to find beauty in all aspects af masculinity. The unfortunate thing about being a certain age in the community is white males had been held up as the beauty standard and any thing else ethnically that can't be fetishized is demonized. And just like the larger culture it's all those shades that brought the flair to gay culture. You command a bit more capital than you give yourself credit for, go use it.
@@calvinbethea3369 I know we POC have enriched the LGBTQ community in many ways. But it really hasn't changed things much. I've been around the field (I'm in my 30s now) for years and white men still command every aspect of our community. The standard of beauty remains the same....and it's ok. I've honestly accepted it. It is what it is. I know what I'm capable of and I give more than what the two men in the video offer combined. But I was born a non-Caucasian so in the gay dating world, I'm either shunned or fetishized. I'm seen as a Hispanic and nothing more, but since I don't fit the Gay white man's mold for what a Latino should look like or be. I'm mostly shunned Nowadays. I've done many experiments on line to prove this, I set up a fake profile on a sex app using a white man's pic (a random otter I found online) and then on a separate account using my own pics & stats. I randomly hit up a few white guys and was either ignored/blocked or was told "not interested." The older white men (even the overweight unattractive ones) also shot me down immediately. And there was one gay old white man who said to me, "I'm looking for someone my own age..." As an excuse lol (as if I'm dumb enough to believe that.) But I apologized for wasting his time and bid him farewell. So when it came to my other fake profile (set up as the same age as me,) that same old gay white man was practically begging to go out with the fake profile, even offered to pay bills! So yeah, nothing's changed in the LGBTQ community but for me personally, it has for the worst. I've had gotten together with other POC but they almost all have complexes like I do....and want just a taste of that bliss and be part of the magic bubble that gay whites experience on a daily basis. It sounds silly but it's sadly true And the older gay POC are bitter and broken beyond repair, and that's what I'm afraid of becoming (I won't though.) I realize that my years are numbered and pretty soon I'll be completely undesirable. Even in gay porn, you'll hardly find POC past a certain age. But gay whites are desired no matter what they look like or how old. It's just the unfortunate reality of our world. So like I said in my previous post, I can't help but to wish being a gay white male sometimes. It's just that I've reached a point in my life where I'm just so tired of the challenges, mistreatment and disrespect that comes with being a POC.

Terrae Spiritus- I completely understand your journey. It’s definitely not easy being a poc in the lgtbq plus world. Usually I’m overlooked by other minorities including a lot of Hispanics and my own people because my skin is too dark. And you’re right- I’m a bit blunt and mean in my older years because of trauma. Wish you the best and hope your path changes towards finding someone who cares for you genuinely.
