I remember when the forefathers introduced these (Roland, Lidner, Houston) were throwing these....

Herb Reed was hand poring that bait in the late 80’s and won the Red Man on Lake Wallenpaupack with it and gave me some. We both qualified for the Federation National Championship in 1991. I won and caught a good chunk of my fish on a Slug go! Herb finished 2nd, nobody else was close. I still catch a lot of fish on it.

I was in the same bass club as the inventor, Herb Reed. He worked on this lure for a long time before he was satisfied it was ready. Still works!

bro NOBODY talks about these anymore these are what i’ve grown up always knowing as “jerkbaits” these soft plastic types i was shocked to learn what jerkbaits actually are i feel like these baits have disappeared they are so fun to fish i LOVE that you’re talking about these types of baits watching you relive that strike is great

Your story reminded me of one of my worse break offs. The displacement of water looked like i was snagged on tree trunk and was pulling it up. After i broke off i casted at that spot for the next hour. I even tied on a naked power ned hook to pull up the "tree" so i could tell myself it wasnt a fish.... Nothing... It haunts me and makes sick TO THIS DAY!

Well, it has finally happened! Sluggo is being" Discovered" I am 60 and my father(passed) and I have been fishing these on jig heads virtually since they hit the market. Small mouth, walleye, sauger, largemouth, wiper, white bass, crappie. Everything eats them. It's all about the jig head/ perfect balance
@otroflores919 ай бұрын
What is one of your favorite jig heads for them? The gentleman who turned me on to them has also been fishing them since the start. He gets on and off the boat with a walker now but he puts a hurting on the saltwater bass still. 6inch sluggo with a 1/2- 1oz lead masters jig head is how we fish it.

I'm a old school too ,I started back fishing in the mid 80s after I gotten out of the U.S. Army, my dad and brother were tournament bass fishing, and I still have a bunch of my lures from back then and still fish with them. I remember when Sluggo came out. Old School lures the bass haven't seen them still catch Bass and Crappie.

Lunker city also has a lure called the hellgie that will absolutely spank some river smallies.
@chickenmessiah9 ай бұрын
I haven’t found it to be so weather dependent-maybe because I fish it no matter what, or maybe because I’m in the northeast. I do dead stick it when fishing is slow, and get some of my biggest fish that way every year. Try a black 3” for streams and 4” for rivers. Killer on smallmouths.

I have been fishing sluggio's 4:14 since I believe 1990. They still work today and have never stopped. I use them all year long especially when things get tough. I rigid the original way with a weight in it or a weighted hook and fish it from the bottom to top
@adamsnelson46899 ай бұрын
The Rainbow colored sluggo worked the best
@williamgould24709 ай бұрын
@@adamsnelson4689 I tried all the colors but best for me were the either black back or blue back and silver side, Followed by a light line green with specs in it that they don't make anymore, And then the bubble gum. I don't like the way Randy hooks them because if you hook them with an offset wormhook they become weedless due to the concave on the back of the bait. He is right in saying when a fish hits give the fish a second to turn and then set the hook. Glad someone else is using them but if they were discontinued I have a lifetime supply.

Manns here in Alabama used to make them back in the 90's. My friends dad used to work there and he would bring them home to bag up to make extra money. I was just a kid back then but still have a large variety of them, and they are still in good shape. I always thought the rounded side was the top, I'm going to have to try it your way and see how that works. Thanks for the video Randy.

I'm just starting to get into freshwater fishing. Fished saltwater for years now. Met an older gentleman named Lance, his been fishing since a child. Worked in the saltwater fishing industry his whole life too. Pinhead to captain of long range tuna boats. Anyways Lance put me on to slugos after watching him out fish us kids on a few trips. Have caught many saltwater bass on them since. They will catch anything it seems, we rig them on jig heads or weighted ewg hooks.Caught mahi mahi on them last year. I have a collection of assorted colors and sizes up to 9 inches. Never thought about throwing them for largemouth but I'll try. MC baits also make slugs and they work too.

Did you know the senko was created to be a competitor to the sluggo? But (almost) nobody fishes the senko like a sluggo. Weighted hooks with screw in or push in connectors work well with both. Now those hooks are often called weighted swim bait hooks. Of course the zoom super fluke has taken over this tactic over both.

When that slugo came out it was the IT !! Lure .. but I swear u loose a lot of fish on those . Maybe it's because back then we just had worm hooks. But I just remember loosing so many fish on them..
