with regard to the beavers, they actually do appear again in final fantasy 14 very strangely in side quests in shadowbringers as being some kind of strange transformation or disease for the Pixies as a group of Pixies get turned into them for some unexplained reason. they are still themselves but only the player can understand them and choose to just live with it. you can also get a beaver minion if you bring one of them a dancing wing from the Dancing Plague Extreme.

That place is a gold mine, indeed. There's always the most obscure and diminute details on it which is my favorite thing to find, and there's minions for everything. I will pay attention when I reach there so thank you for that! 😅

I don't get the logistic of Moombaa being the ideal form of Shumi but...I get it, that's a good aspiration to be

I think early FF was trying to find its identity amongst the massive amount of Tolkien influence in fantasy at the time so things like elves and such tended to fade away over time. Also interesting how many unique things are in FFVIII and how the MMO serves as a vehicle to insert all kinds of lore and worldbuilding that doesn’t have the time to get fleshed out or expanded upon in single player games. Cool video idea.

Thank you very much! FF8 might have been the main inspiration to search for some of these, Shumis were so out of left field, and Moombas were so cute but confined to it (I count them separately), and I guess the reason there's 2 from that game in this list. But yes! Despite many obvious starting inspiration that most things have, they have always been making self callback to each game and going harder and harder, and the existence of the MMO genre was like meant to be and thankfully done well. It's basically a biggest theme park possible but in game form
