Thank you for your work. A great summary. Agree with the comments not being there long enough to read. Also, a mention of the Knapsack siding just prior to Knapsack Bridge (up side) would add to this video.

Seconded. One of these days, perhaps this spring, I'll get the train to Glenbrook, have a bit of a wander around, and some lunch before returning.

I lived in Glenbrook in the 60's and the tunnel was used to grow mushrooms and prior to that it was used to store ammo WWII. On the downward end there were the best blackberries.

Nicely done. Same observation as Garry, text disappears too quickly to read, have to keep pausing. Otherwise, Good stuff

Will you cover the private gravel lines that ran at Toongabbie and Fairfield, as well as the lines to Potts Hill, and Westmead to Rogans Hill?

Very interesting, thanks! A couple of suggestions: (a) don't have the caption cover so much of the scene, and (b) have a map up in a corner showing where the current scene is, maybe with a little progress line from where we started to where we are now

great video .. only comment ... the text at the start should be on screen longer .. not enough time to be able to read before the next comes up, question, was the original viaduct widened and used as the Great Western Highway after the second viaduct was built and finally the present day freeway ? cheers

Garry, the original Knapsack viaduct was single line. It was widened to accommodate road traffic after the 2nd rail viaduct was commissioned. A great book to read is Lapstone Zig Zag by William H Bailey. Hard to find now but worth the effort if you are keen on historic Blue Mountain alignments.

@@bobmaxwell7506 thanks for the reply ... I thought it had been widened for road use ... and thanks for reminding me, I do have that book in my collection, I must re-read it, cheers

With regard to the timing, try reading aloud - when you've finished reading, most people will have had enough time to have at least read it silently. Also what would help to put it into perspective is a graphic, showing the relative locations of the (at least historic) sections of the line, such as top, middle and bottom roads of the zig zag, the tunnel and the pointsman's cottage. Another question, is this tunnel where the chemical weapons storage was during WW2?

Have you thought about including a spoken commentary? You are working with interesting material but I think a commentary would help and it would go some way to addressing the issue of the length of time that text remains on screen. (Text to speech software comes up on special a few times a year - it can be a great way to add a commentary to films if you don't want to use your own voice).

Agree with other comments about reading time. I don't agree with them about audio. I much prefer hearing as is, than with annoying commentary, or worse, music.

Saw a video recently that the tunnel has been cleaned up and not sure if it is opened the the public.

There is a proposal to develop a bike trial though the tunnel, I'm unsure if the public are able to access it or not

Yes the on screen text is not visible long enough. The creator should sit back and time themselves reading the text comfortably, then apply that time to the on screen time for subsequent videos.

Thanks for vid, appreciate it as a former lower Blue Mountains boy. Last time I walked on the abandoned little zig zag route (admittedly about 20 years ago) it was still possible to find bits of oil shale spilt from trains bringing it down the mountain. Lit a bit of ordinary looking rock on the barbecue at home to the astonishment of my children to prove what it was. One small point for future videos: please don't use c. for circa when referring to dates for railway stations etc. Dates are well documented; circa ie around is only appropriate for less well documented structures .

You need to read your supers for timing, they are too short....and slow down on the cuts, need to be a walking pace edit, not music video. Great material, but just needs to be slower paced for your audience not to have to back up to take in the great shots and informative text.

Mate : if you’re going to put information up leave it long enough to read. Don’t just flash it otherwise it’s not worth watching.

You need to give the viewer the time to read the information. The average viewer is not a speed reader.
