You get to realize what makes the top Westerns top. The writing is sharp, tight and an amazing amount of excitement and interest in just half an hour. Rifleman for example.

Even with the quality of some of the footage, still much better, moral, purer and wholesome entertainment than anything available today. Thanks for the uploads.

What would we have done without all of the westerns we love so much? Years and years of entertainment. To me westerns are like pizza... even the bad ones are still good.

There were so many westerns in those days it would seem that if you were a tall, lean young man in 1959 and knew how ride a horse you could head off to Hollywood and get some kind of part in a western. If not as a cowboy maybe an Indian.

@@KNT.63 Saying that "in some ways it's still better than some shows that make it today" might be true, but it's hardly a recommendation, given the absolute trash inflicted upon the viewing public these days.

@@KNT.63 Given that there were around 200 Western TV series across the 1950s-1960s - in the USA - the competition for the Western aficionado viewer was fierce. Here in Australia, we didn't get to see most of those series. Bonanza was most popular, along with Cheyenne, Laramie, Bat Masterson, Daniel Boone, Have Gun Will Travel, The Rifleman, Maverick, Rawhide, Wagon Train. I can't recall ever seeing Gunsmoke when I was a youngster. Looking at several of the Forsaken Westerns....I get the impression that most were very low-budget 'fillers' rather that whole-hearted attempts at quality viewing, along the lines of the hour-long biggies such as Bonanza, High Chaparral, Gunsmoke. Are you related to Bob Terry ?

Trivia-Sheriff Barrett played by Robert "Dabbs" William Greer. Distinctive voice. In the business for 50 years. He is probably best remembered for his role as Rev. Alden on Little House on the Prairie (1974) but he was also a regular on the TV series Gunsmoke (1955) as a merchant, Mr. Jonas, and Picket Fences (1992) as Rev. Henry Novotny. He also appeared in made-for-TV movies and guest-starred on such series as Adventures of Superman (1952); The Rifleman (1958); Wanted: Dead or Alive (1958); Trackdown (1957); Perry Mason (1957); Bonanza (1959); The Fugitive (1963) and The Brady Bunch (1969). Greer's last role in a long and successful career, was in the hit movie, The Green Mile. He shared the starring role with Tom Hanks--Hanks as the younger version, Greer as the much older version--of lead character, Paul Edgecomb. Greer's character narrates throughout the entire film. It is from Greer's p.o.v. and memory flashbacks that the entire tale unfolds. He was 82 years old. He got his stage name "Dabbs" from his grandmother because that was her maiden name. "Married" two of the most well-known couples on television. On The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961) he played the army chaplain who married Rob and Laura Petrie, and on The Brady Bunch (1969) he played the minister who married Mike and Carol Brady. imdb
