It still baffles and frustrates me that they took a vacation. Sure, go ahead, take Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day off. I'm not completely heartless. Yet to drop such a critical, groundbreaking milestone of a patch in a half finished state and running off for two weeks really doesn't sit right with me. Especially when Star Citizen and SQ42 as a whole are so behind schedule.

It typically happens to some degree every year and some are worse than others There's still at least some people over there, but usually every year there's hardly anything happens until the end of January. Thankfully, things aren't unplayable at the moment, so I'd fully expect outside of maybe a hotfix, they won't have a 4.01 or "real" 4.0 release until the end of January or later. It would be cool if it was sooner though.

I haven't had anywhere near as bad of an experience as previous patches. Like 3.18 was universally bad and pretty much unplayable for everyone on launch.

By the time 1.0 comes out Stanton is going to be hopelessly outdated. Pyro might be as well. Game is so broken its unplayable. No matter how hard you try, how hard you want to explore. Its not allowed. Something like 95% of the ships are still just a shell of whatever they are supposed to be.

No it's not... The plan was "dynamic" server meshing. And it's not done and the guy who build it isn't working there anymore either. So basically they aren't even going to work on it anymore. Servers still crash. And crash recovery isn't a solution. There isn't a single MMO out there that just has random server crashes as a thing that just happens all the time... It's not even close to being done.

​​​@@bartasbxx The Server Meshing timeline shared years ago literally said Dynamic would come AFTER Static was Live. And Benoît confirmed like a month or two ago that's still what's happening. In fact, he said aspects of Dynamic have already been implemented. Even besides that, even with just Static, the tick rates are often at 30 even with 500+ players, 2 systems, and full NPC populations. What exactly do you expect to gain from Dynamic? Most likely, you wouldn't even notice the difference rn. Server Meshing itself is more significant and much more difficult than making it dynamic and for now matters more for CIG's finances than for your experience.

So now, no further progress is being made because the main person with the know-how isn’t there anymore. The NPCs? Completely braindead. CIG keeps promising performance improvements, but we’ve seen nothing tangible. In fact, they’ve stripped things out of 4.0, like engineering, to make it more stable. But once servers have to handle every engineering decision players make, performance is going to tank again-it’s obvious. It’s becoming clear that everyone who said this game isn’t feasible the way Chris Roberts envisions it was right. There’s a reason they’re not even considering NPC crews until 1.0-they can’t make it work. If basic NPCs that just walk around and shoot can’t function properly, how are they supposed to handle complex AI decision-making? They can’t. And they won’t.
