And the best bit is, this is not for a championship, points etc but for fun, sheer fun, Dumas threading the needle at 130mph + in a car which would kill you if you crashed at speed, but for fun and bragging rights only. AC Cobras are amazing cars. I got the privilege to see a 427 SC Cobra in real life. after the owner just brought it back from back east. it was a sight to see for sure. that was some amazing driving. where the driver readjusted his mirror like it was no big deal. like he was out on leisurely cruise. in that left hand drive Cobra. there's no doubt these drivers have no fear what so ever.

Probably some of them were, but I'm not sure that any of those in this race were kit cars. The red and gold #1 Cobra, for example, is ex-Roy Salvadori, they owner's been racing it for decades! The #2 Wilson/Lotterer car, I remembered seeing an ad, it went on sale shortly after winning here. The car is an original Cobra but one that hadn't got a racing history. This race is the first ever race it did, and boy it did so well...

Shelby bought a rolling chassis made by AC. He imported them to the USA and fitted the Ford V8 engine. He sold them as Shelby Cobras. The cars sold in the rest of the world were completed by AC and sold as AC Cobras. In the UK, the cars are definitely AC Cobras

@@pashakdescilly7517 - I'm curious as to why all these Cobras at Goodwood have the "Le Mans" hardtop. I'm going to assume it's for safety, but I am so used to seeing the original Cobra roadsters race here in the States, the hardtops don't do anything for the looks of the car at all. That is why Pete Brock designed and built the Daytona Cobra Coupe, as the hardtop conversion to the roadster was an attempt to make the car more aero for higher top speed.....it didn't work!

@@Loulovesspeed I believe in US racing, the windscreen can be removed. At Goodwood, no. The hardtop makes the Cobra more aerodynamically efficient, which is why they all use one. The Daytona coupe is more than just a pretty body, the chassis is also different.

I know that the hardtops were put on the Le Mans Cobras in an unsuccessful attempt to improve its very poor aerodynamics. Top speed was still no more than 150-155 mph. That was not competitive with the Ferrari 250 GTO which was capable of 183 mph. That is why the Daytona Coupe was created and that was very successful hitting up to 197 on the Mulsanne Straight.

@Spencer Tracy - I hear Britts refer to the 289 V8 as a big or huge V8. It is big I guess, compared to the much more common 4 and 6 cylinder UK cars, but in the U.S. this is a little, small block V8. The 427......now that is a huge V8! That said, the Cobra Daytona Coupe has a 289 with 4 webers and Bob Bondurant hit 197 on the Mulsanne Straight with his!

Dear Goodwood staff, may I make an editorial request? I think it will greatly improve your viewership. Firstly I would like to thank and congratulate you with the excellent cockpit camera placement (POV). Because of the excellent placement of the cameras watching the images becomes 10 times more exciting, therefor please upload the cockpit POV (no outside stationary cameras) of the cars battling for position. The editing for these videos is NOT labor intensive at all and will gain you more viewership guaranteed. Also, because of the nature of these races, racing hard with classic/retro cars you are sitting on a gold mine waiting to be exploited. The future is POV, like the successful video games of today. That would mean; - if cars in position 1 and 2 are battling for position the POV of the car in 2nd should be used. - if cars in position 1, 2 and 3 are battling for position the POV of the car in 3rd should be used. - if the lead car is to far away switch to the next car that is in battle for a position, eg; cars in position 2 and 3 are battling for position few hundred meters down the track from lead car, the POV of the car in 3rd position should be used ETC. You get the yest of things, the exciting parts of the video are the battles from cockpit POV. At the end of the video you can show the moments of contact, off track and broken body panels. Make 2 kinds of these videos: - 1. A short videos between 4 and 10 minutes long with the most exciting parts edited together. _Place a link in both the _*_description, comments and endcard_*_ of the short video to the long video._ - 2. upload a long version, with non skip-able 15 sec. advertisement at the start of the video and a long advert at end of the video. (no ads in the middle) _(now watch the views and revenue rise.)_ CALL THESE VIDEOS SOMETHING LIKE: (Name of race) [Goodwood POV Racing] (date) *In the thumbnail should be the brands of the cars in clearly visible bold letters.* I sincerely hope you take note of this comment, its a win/win scenario if successfully applied.
