What I enjoy the most about this whole sequence is how it leans full into visual storytelling. We see these dispirited, broken shells of these legends through the game; Kiryu stopped caring about his appearance, his age is showing, and he is dying of cancer. His hair is going grey, it's in it's natural, unstyled cut, and he wears all black-- both exuding a cold professionalism and evocative of what one wears to a funeral. The three other Tojo legends, when met, are out of their iconic looks, unkempt and unshaven, and bereft of their own identities. They're just "people," and are going through bad times. The climb up the Millenium Tower once more has these four in their identities; Kiryu in his classic grey and red, which looks all the better with his grey hair now styled back to how it should be. Majima in his leather style, with steel-toed dress shoes and knife once more. Saejima in his military fatigues, back to the clean cut and being the force of nature he is. What I keep coming back to though is Dojima. All through the series, his attire is one that LACKED identity. He was just "The Sixth Chairman." Business formal with no discerning characteristics, hair and goatee grown out to look older than what he is, and always feeling like he was in the shadow of Kiryu rather than coming in to his own. You'd expect him to follow up with that here, but he's not. His hair has it's own look, his goatee is gone. His clothing of choice is simple, practical, but full of identity. Daigo looks WAY YOUNGER than what he actually is here, and everything about him is evocative of that rebellious punk we met barhopping and belligerent back in Yakuza 2. He leans in to the overarching theme that Ichiban exudes in Y7 and Y8: that a found family is more important than blood ties, and everything Daigo does is his own style of his "father" in Kiryu. He's the only one at the end of the action sequence who is not out of breath or lost in the thrill of the fight. This is his first time fighting up the Millenium Tower, too. Congratulations, Daigo. You finally are starting to get a taste of "protagonist" energy you've been sorely lacking all these years.

What really annoyed me is that in Gaiden, the fight was really epic with all of them revealing the tattoos and then led right into the final boss that Kiryu fought alone, while here they seem wasted on a bunch of goons and then the legends stay back to hold off low level goons while Kiryu goes with a hobo, an assassin and a hostess to fight more low level goons... and then the final boss. I would have preferred it if you fought with the party all the way to the boss, fought the final boss with the party in phase 1 and then for phase 2 the party is exhausted, the legendbros come in and then it is Kiryu alone with the support squad to end the fight. It would feel more epic imo.

I think it's much more fitting for both Kiryu and the players. Not only does it force you to rely on yourself for this fight, Kiryu would also know he could never issue commands to these guys. They act on their own anyways, yet always fight to support you, just like in every game before 7 with the real-time combat. What I do hate is that they didn't have co-op heat actions for Kiryu. Like come on, they would have worked perfectly here.

1:37- 2:37 Best part of the song, really makes you feel like this is the final battle to decide the fate of the people you care about, make you want to give it your best to go ahead and keep fighting until you reach the big bad villain. Obviously the most iconic moment is four Tojo legends teamup, but i also would like to talk about the part after that, where Kiryu and his party rushing toward the top floor and deal with armies of yakuza and a helicopter to reach Ebina, with this music playing. Really makes me motivational and emotional

A small bit that I think is interesting: During the cutscene at the end, Kiryu catches one opponent, headbutts him, then punches, then kicks. Immediately after, you see Daigo (after using his signature jumping knee attack) also catching an opponent, headbutting him, then punching, then kicking (someone else but still). This is the exact thing Kiryu just did. Remember that Daigo sees himself as Kiryu's son. While he still shows his own style (the knee attack), he wants to be Kiryu's son, he sees him as his role model, he wants to be as strong as him. Like a lot of sons do, he tries to be like his father. Also, this is probably the last fight they have together, which they both know. Daigo was there to prove that he grew. That, back in the fishing hut, it was the last time Kiryu needs to beat him up to set him into the right direction. This is also highlighted by the fact, that this time, Daigo helps Kiryu, not the other way around. How many fights did Kiryu take to save or protect Daigo? Ryuji, the Y2 rescue, Mine, even in the Y0 substory he had to save him. But now, Kiryu is getting older, weaker (not weak but far from his peak), and how it is with many father and sons, Daigo now helps out his aged dad Kiryu. That is, if you want to interpret this that way. If you don't, that is fine, you still got this badass music, fight and moment in the game :D

I just wanna say I love how utterly tired this song feels. Like, much like Kiryu, Saejima and Majima it feels old and tired and in Kiryu's case very sick. But with Daigo here helping it helps inject some energy back into the track at the start to keep it going. And once they really get into the action it ramps all of the way up, as though the old timers are allowed to let loose once more in Saejima and Majima's cases while Kiryu finds yet another second wind to keep moving forward. And Daigo? Daigo finally gets a chance to much in and let loose after so long of having to play the leader figure, where he can actually just be a man in a stylish outfit fighting against some enemy Yakuza for the first time since well, since he's been introduced. Sure in 2 it was implied but there he got his ass kicked. Now? Now he's showing he has stood tall and kick ass just lke the rest of the cast.

A detail of these theme I really like is the subtle beeping noises scaterred along it. I absolutely adore the idea of implement character relevant sounds to their soundtrack and this is a great example. It would be normal to interpret them as Kiryu dying or his health failing dramatically. But instead I believe its quite the opposite. This moment is the exact point in which Kiryu decides to live again. We see all over Infinite Wealth's story how he refuses any treatment instead choosing to spend his last days doing whatever he can to help. He has given up. And yet, after reconnecting with his past, his friends, his memories and finally recieving the support he always needed not just from the heroes of tomorrow but from his closest allies in the yakuza he chooses to live. Those beeps are not his heart giving up, but his fighting spirit rising again to live one more day. TLDR: Absolute peak

Why do I feel like this is the kind of music that will play when you finally beat the one that was supposed to be final boss And then you got a message from the actual final boss to come to randomass place to settle score You came to meet them at midnight, having a little heart-to-heart talk, then both of you process to throwing punch at each other while the sun is rising (my English is bad so don't expect much)

Dumb question, but does anyone know the song that plays when Komaki first walks out of the alley to greet Kiryu in his substory? I couldn't find it in the official soundtrack.

@@snesmocha thats not the one, its like the Yakuza 8 Substory theme thats unreleased that plays sometimes during substories. The same one that plays when Lau tries to reveal his name to Kiryu

I for one loved this ending OST before the final boss of Persona - Like A Dragon, really fit in well to 5 royals I Belive.

The 3 Seiryu guys crashing through the window to fight the party before the final battle reminded me of Yakuza 0 when Kiryu has to fight 3 of Shibusawa's guys on the boat before reaching Shibusawa. I felt it was a nice throwback to that (not sure if there's any other games where Kiryu had to fight a trio before the last battle).
