How? look before invaders came to India there was no religion, there were only different cultures.... in any of our scripture have you heard about hindu, muslim, christ etc... never I believe,.... So, people from outside came here and converted our people to their own religion.... even today you wont find any proper definition of hindu... cause the term was not created by us... it was given by british or some outsiders.. In mahabharata you might have heard about dharma. a thousand times, but that does not meant religion, what we call it today... by dharma means duty. something that is doable or can be done, should be done etc.... on the other hand religion means practice certain rituals.... For the entire world dharma is one and same... but their ritual practices may be different.. Probably you or your forefathers did not came from outside, they must be living here and get converted.... if you have actual Indian blood in your body, you will never get satisfied in any other religion but only in hinduism (todays term). Every Hindu who complains that we have caste systems etc please watch the original story of the 4 varnas. Later people misused all this and created the caste systems which is a bane in our culture. What a profound statement - by Sri Krishna - explained in such a wonderful manner. Instead of criticising other religions I request Hindus to know their source and how pure it is. There is nothing in the world that cannot be explained through Bhagavad Gita. It is unfortunate that we are not taught this when we are in school.

Gita is outdated and in the present world quite offensive to the non-brahmins. Chapter 4 Verse 13 "Chatur Varna Maya Shristam" Means I have created the four classes (varn )-Brahmin,Kshatriya, Vaishya and Shudra. This cant be true, since God is boundaryless and classless and hence would not create a class. Chapter 3 verse 24 "Utseedheyurimey loka na kuryam kara chedaham .." Means If I (krishna) cease to perform, I would be the cause of varna sankara (interbreeding).Why is inter-breeding a sin, if classes were really fluid and based on Guna and karma. Going by the definition of Guna-karma basis , how can husband and wife have same varna, isnt it impractical to prevent inter-breeding usign the Guna-karma defintion. Chapter 3 verse 35 "Sreyaan sva-dharmo vigunah para-dharmat "Means Performing one's natural prescribed duty tinged with faults is far better than performing anothers precribed duty perfectly. . This is an open call to remain in one's own occupation. If you are a farmer, remain one. Chapter 18 verse 42 "paricharyatmakam karma sudrasyapi svabava.." The actions of a sudra is to do service to brahmanas, kshatriyas and vaisyas. This can only be written by a brahmin. This suggests if you are shudra, you should do this karma. Quite opposite to , if you do this karma, you would become a shudra.

Balgit Sharma considering the time it was written these laws could apply but i always took the classes to mean wht one is born to by desire not by material birth. if one enjoys farming then it does not matter the class of his parents. let him be a farmer. supporting ppl's natural inclinations is the job of society. but i have seen brahamins who desire to be looked upon with worship. this is wrg. a personal flaw and one they are creating bad karma. for the law of love overrides all. maybe being western and raised christian i can take wht is needed to be a better human being and leave the rest. but you are right this does concern me. for it does not seem it supports the true idea of wht the classes were origianally said to mean, ppl do according to their nautural inclinations for the betterment of the whole. if the brahamins have this superior attitude i think it is creating bad karma for them for wht little i have read of sanskrit this is not the way to be.

In Mahabharata, in Vana parba, there were famous dialogues between a Serpent King Nahusha and King Yudhishthir about Chaur Varnas. Yudhishthir, the son of Lord Dharma (Yama), the wisest of the wise repeated the same thing with clear and decisive explanation. He also said Varna is based on guna (personal traits). A person born in a Brahman family also should be considered as Sudra and a person born in a Sudra family also should be considered as Brahmin, if they have those kind of gunas. The description there was in far details and elaborate. Nahusha asked more questions related to this topic. After this dialogue, Nahusha was released from the curse and left for the heaven.

चातुर्वण्यं मया सृष्टं गुणकर्मविभागशः। तस्य कर्तारमपि मां विद्धयकर्तारमव्ययम्।। १३।। तथा हे अर्जुन! गुण और कर्मों के विभाग से ब्राह्मण, क्षत्रिय, वैश्य और शूद्र मेरे द्वारा रचे गए हैं। उनके कर्ता को भी, मुझ अविनाशी परमेश्वर को, तू अकर्ता ही जान। ओशो उवाच कृष्ण इस श्लोक में कहते हैं, गुण और कर्म के अनुसार चार वर्ण मैंने ही रचे हैं! एक बात। और तत्काल दूसरी बात कहते हैं कि फिर भी, उन्हें निर्माण करने वाले मुझ कर्ता को, तू अकर्ता ही जान। बहुत मिस्टीरियस, बहुत रहस्यपूर्ण वक्तव्य है। पहले हिस्से को पहले समझ लें, फिर दूसरे हिस्से को समझें। वर्ण की बात ही असामयिक हो गई है। कृष्ण के इस सूत्र को पढ़कर न मालूम कितने लोग बेचैनी अनुभव करते हैं। परमात्मा ने रचे हैं वर्ण! कठिनाई मालूम पड़ती है। क्योंकि वर्णों के नाम पर इतनी बेहूदगी हुई है और वर्णों के नाम पर इतना अनाचार हुआ है, वर्णों की ओट और आड़ में इतना सड़ापन पैदा हुआ है, इतनी सड़ांध पैदा हुई है कि भारत का पूरा हृदय ही कैंसर से ग्रस्त अगर हुआ, तो वह वर्णों के सहारे हुआ है। तो आज कोई भी विचारशील व्यक्ति जब इस सूत्र को पढ़ता है, तो थोड़ा या तो बेचैन होता है या जल्दी इसको पढ़कर आगे निकल जाता है। इस पर ज्यादा रुकता नहीं। ऐसा लगता है कि कुछ ठीक नहीं है; आगे बढ़ो। पर मैं इस पर जरा रुकना चाहूं। क्यों? क्योंकि जीवन में सत्यों के आधार पर भी असत्य चल जाते हैं। सच तो यह है कि असत्य के पास अपने पैर नहीं होते; उसे पैर सदा सत्य से ही उधार लेने पड़ते हैं। इसलिए असत्य बोलने वाला बहुत कसमें खाता है कि जो मैं बोल रहा हूं, वह सत्य है। बेईमानी को भी ईमानदारी के वस्त्र पहनने पड़ते हैं। और दुनिया में जब भी कोई सत्य जीवन-सिद्धांत प्रकट होता है, तो उसका भी दुरुपयोग किया गया है, किया जाता रहा है। लेकिन इससे सिद्धांत गलत नहीं होता। एटम का विश्लेषण हुआ। परिणाम में हिरोशिमा और नागासाकी का विध्वंस मिला। हिरोशिमा और नागासाकी के कारण एटम के विश्लेषण का सिद्धांत गलत नहीं होता। लाख आदमी मर गए, जलकर राख हो गए। और पीढ़ियों दर पीढ़ियों तक बच्चे प्रभावित रहेंगे। पंगु, अपंग, अंधे, लंगड़े, लूले पैदा होंगे। लेकिन फिर भी अणु के विश्लेषण का सिद्धांत, थिअरी गलत नहीं होती है। गलत उपयोग हुआ, यह हमारे कारण, सिद्धांत के कारण नहीं। वर्ण के कारण जो-जो हुआ, उसके लिए हम जिम्मेवार हैं, हम गलत लोग। उसके लिए वर्ण की वैज्ञानिक चिंतना जिम्मेवार नहीं है। कृष्ण जब कहते हैं, तो वे दो शब्दों का उपयोग करते हैं। वे कहते हैं, गुण और कर्म के अनुसार मैंने चार वर्ण बनाए। गुण और कर्म! व्यक्ति-व्यक्ति में गुणों का भेद है। और दुनिया में कोई समानता का उपाय नहीं है, जिससे हम गुण-भेद मिटा सकें। हम कितनी ही बड़ी कम्युनिस्टिक सोसायटी को पैदा कर लें, कितना ही साम्यवादी समाज निर्मित कर लें, गुण-भेद नहीं मिटा पाएंगे। धन को बराबर बांट दें; कपड़े एक से पहना दें; मकान एक से बना दें; गुण भिन्न ही होंगे। गुण में अंतर नहीं मिटाया जा सकेगा। कोई उपाय नहीं है। गुण व्यक्ति की आत्मा का हिस्सा है; बाह्य समाज व्यवस्था का हिस्सा नहीं है गुण।

English translation didn't come from french. The first translation was done by Charles Wilkins in 1785, for a guy called Warren Hastings. Wilkins was the founder of The Asiatic Society. He learned Sanskrit in Kashi and translated the Bhagavad Gita into English (Dialogues of Krishna and Arjun) It does not even contain the word caste. However, could anyone tell me why Buddha saw the need to criticize birth based caste system 2500 years ago? Please don't delete my comment, it's a genuine question

First English version was by Charles Wilkins,1785, directly translated from Sanskrit. No translation from French, from German aso, it was the other way round. This is his translation of BG 4:13: Mankind was created by me of four kinds, diſtinct in their principles, and in their duties. Swami Chinmayananda translates the exact same verse as follows: 13. The fourfold-caste has been created by Me according to the differentiation of GUNA an d KARMA; though I am the author thereof know Me as non-doer and immutable.

Because certain permutations are not possible - Tamas cannot come immediately after Sattva. So, Sattva-Tamas-Rajas and Rajas-Sattva-Tamas are not possible.

Colour is a result through & from material. It's a Reflection of internal structure. Guna is what results (potential) & karma is Freedom in action (flexibility). One is fixed by birth & other emerges through the first (karma through guna). So one cannot do karma as he likes, so, it's called flexibility or Freedom to Act. But how you act is dependent. Guna is like Family Quality, fixed. It is like land (Guna) upon which one walk (karma). Caste was misused. Like everything. But same is now also. May be in different forms & names. But birth itself is real like death. If one knows how to use it, he will expand. Democracy is a concept, but doesn't make everyone leader!!! For that one must Work.... Yes, family hold is going down due to change in food & other factors. So, & thus, misuse was done - preventing education & other restriction. Everything still holds water. Ancients cannot be wrong - as Ancient is Being before Consciousness!!!

Indian can justify caste in heaven also. DNA analysis proved that humans are indifferent. Hindu mythology has no single explanation. People can interpret them as per their wish. Even Islam and Christian started following caste system in India. Those Hindus who wanted to free from caste again fell into it after conversion.

His intention and methods are interesting . He just left his description of Tamas taking example of manual labourers and leaving some sarcastic comments. Manual labourers are the most tolerant and the least selfish. If selfishness as described by Swami, which is the core essential to become Rajasik is lacking in them. He should have given other appropriate examples of Tamasik nature rather than poking fun on hard workers, whom he describes as essential for the existence of the other two natures . The satvik nature is very prominently seen in those hard workers whose patience is seen as Tamasik .

Harjeet Singh manusmriti is not the central text of Hinduism, and many other smritis are also there which contradict manu on many points. So there is no fixed " Hindu law".

Bharat and Hinduism was created well before Lord Ram and Lord Krishna came to guide Hindus. There is a cast system in all over the world since the creation of this universe. We all need the cast for ourselves.
