This was a GREAT awakening for the Israeli nation. "Never underestimate your enemy" old but very true saying ("They" can learn and improve - don't doubt it - expect it - happened many times in history). Both learnt an expensive lesson from this (true of all wars). Egypt may have recovered enough pride and belief in themselves to find lasting peace with Israel and Israel the reality of ego (so far since then so good - not without effort by both). Peace means life. War means death. The balance between is up to us decided by the sacrifice of the later for the former.

@@KE-qu3tywell, enlighten me as to what I said that is wrong? The the Israelis had surrounded the Egyptian 3rd army, that there was nothing between the Israeli army and Cairo or that Israel had moved to the ourskirts of Damascus and the Syrian army had been destroyed? Because all are true The “dream” such as it is, is the guys claim that this was an Arab victory and resulted in Egypt taking back the Sinai. The only reason the Israelis returned Sinai (in 1977) was because Egypt agreed to recognize Israel and its right to exist in return at which point there is no reason to keep the Sinai as there is nothing there and it served only as a buffer) It wasn’t an easy victory for Israel, the Egyptians showed great tactical competence and really bloodied the Israeli army and Air Force, but it was a loss nevertheless and the training and leadership of the Israelis won out.

@@KE-qu3ty it’s not much of a fairytale Israel, had the war been allowed to continue, would’ve occupied Damascus and would’ve pushed to Cairo although the Egyptians likely would’ve surrendered long before the Israelis reached Cairo even without Soviet and US pressure The Egyptian surrender would likely happen after their army in the Sinai was wiped out, and the Israeli started pouring across the canal as by that point Egypt would no longer have the forces necessary to continue fighting an effective war.

War is always tragic but this is especially tragic on so many levels. First, the futility of it all seems to be overlooked by just about everyone. Israel won't ever allow themselves to be destroyed and since they do have nukes, they will surely use them as a last resort. So, in that sense, it's a pointless battle because neither side can really ever win. The Arabs will never accept anything less than the destruction of Israel and Israel won't ever permit the Arabs to destroy them. The other reason this is so sad and pointless is that anti Semitism rears it's ugly head at times like this as people support the terrorists as a pathetic way of masking their own bigotry.
@ceterumcenseo12
@ceterumcenseo12 7 ай бұрын
An odd assessment of the situation. Which Arabs will never accept anything less than the total destruction of Israel? The most important Arab country is Egypt, and they've been at peace with Israel for decades. Sadat launched the war in 73 not because he had any thoughts of destroying Israel, but to get back the Egyptian lands Israel had occupied since 67. The PA in the Occupied West Bank cooperate only too well with Israel. The only faction deeply hostile to Israel in Lebanon is Hezbollah, and they sprang into being as a response to Israel's brutal and unprovoked invasion of Lebanon in 1982. Syria is a shambles, and if it has an interest in Israel, it's only in getting back the Golan Heights. And then there's Hamas, with their famous charter, demonized in much of the press as bloodthirsty savages A more nuanced perspective was offered by Henry Siegman in an article titled "Israel's Lies," which demonstrates that Israel engineered a pretext to launch the bloody 2009 invasion of Gaza despite Hamas' steadfast efforts to maintain the ceasefire which preceded it, and despite indications that Hamas was moving towards accepting UN Resolution 242 as a way to resolve the conflict. Siegman was executive director of the American Jewish Congress from 1978-1994. Also worthy of note but often overlooked is the fact that Israel played an active part in promoting Hamas as a useful counterweight to Arafat's secular PLO. There's certainly plenty of antisemitism in the world, just as there are many other forms of prejudice swirling about. But the history of the Israel-Palestine conflict has not principally been fueled by antisemitism. As for the recent Hamas attack, I have no problem condemning it as an atrocity. But an effort must be made to uphold basic standards of evenhandedness. Thus, to cite a single example which can stand for a voluminous record of similar actions, one finds, on the first page of the Amnesty International report on the 2008/09 Israeli invasion of Gaza, that: Much of the destruction was wanton and resulted from direct attacks on civilian objects as well as indiscriminate attacks that failed to distinguish between legitimate military targets and civilian objects. Such attacks violated fundamental provisions of international humanitarian law, notably the prohibition on direct attacks on civilians and civilian objects (the principle of distinction), the prohibition on indiscriminate or disproportionate attacks, and the prohibition on collective punishment. Faced with this information, what does evenhandedness require? Clearly, that Israel's atrocities be condemned just as forcefully as those committed by any Palestinian group. Unless, of course, we change the definition of antisemitism to include anyone who denounces Israel's frequently barbaric conduct. We can then hysterically claim that AI, one of the world's leading human rights organizations, and one whose findings on Israel tend to parallel those of other, equally esteemed organizations, including Human Rights Watch and the Israeli group B'tselem, must be controlled by deranged antisemites. At that point, reasonable discussion ends, and partisan delusion takes over.

@MrChainsawAardvark
@MrChainsawAardvark 7 ай бұрын
The short answer is no - automatic stabilizers were not quite ready at the time. Nor were digital fire computers. There were hydraulic systems that would help immobilize the gun so you could fire a few moments after halting, You could set the range on a mechanical wheel, and it would angle the sight so you could just aim at the target and not above it to account for ballistic drop. Something like what the M1 Abrahams can do is very much a mid to late 1980s invention. Not helped by the fact that neither side in this conflict had the most up-to-date vehicles, you're still looking at mostly T-55 and M-48s.

Anyone who tries to understand the conflict between Jew and Arab apart from the Bible will come short. Fundamentally, they cannot coexist in peace, for both lay claim to the promise of Abraham. The Jew of Isaac, the Arab of Ishmael. In Genesis, God rejected Ishmael, and blessed Isaac. The Muslim tradition refuses to acknowledge this. Thus, they cannot have peace whilst both claim the blessings of Abraham as their own.

Fifty years later, maybe get them politics done, now ok ne side a crime the other a war, that math is simply not justifiable, people being equal n all, this is insane how it's cheerleaders line up on one side n perspective, the flight from the reality of the context is sickening how pervasive n internalized it is, n then media wonders why they're told there showing fiction,

I think 🤔 it's the third time I saw the same documentary... a documentary focused on military standards and prospectives ... neglected political backgrounds ( secret negotiations amongst ( Egypt, the US, and Israel) far from the eyes and ears of Israel, Egyptian populations. ...however the documentary, it's a great threat militarily prospective.

This is a completely funny documentary, if Israel win the war , why they left Sinai? Israel completely defeated in this war, and even after they pass to the other side of the canal they could not occupied any city and stayed surrounded by Egyptian army and going to surrender, so immediately they requested from USA to enforce cies fire at the security council. And U.S.A. did that because they knew Israel cannot continue in the war and going to loose , Israel pass the canal and stayed 10 days trying to reach any city but they stoped by the Egyptians although Egypt return back all the cities on the eastern side of the canal, and this will going prove that USA weapons used by Israel cannot defeat the Soviet one. So immediately enforced cies fire. What a documentary wants to false the history !!!!,
