I've got to be honest, I like this finish much better than the standard EVH paint job most people put on these guitars. I think it's a reasonable tribute to Eddie to really personalize this guitar, right down to the '89 quarter. He painted his guitars like that to stand out from the crowd and express his individuality, so I think he would appreciate you painting yours like this to express your individuality. It looks beautiful.

Thank you so much! I totally agree…he was always trying to be unique. I’ve been on both sides of the fence with these EVH replica guitars. I’ve built them both ways…and I can say it’s always much more fun to make these personalized to my own tastes. Thanks for watching!

@@CoffeeDrinker71 thank you man! I wish I could just commission someone to build one for me lol. I tried to build a super strat myself once and bought a nice maple strat neck from someone on Reverb I believe and it didn’t line up properly it was weird, once I had it connected and put strings on it was like the strings were WAY off the fretboard. It wasn’t the truss rod either because the neck was straight and it still looked funky. Ever since then I’ve been pretty lacking in confidence with my guitar building skills. It was the strangest thing I had ever seen. Have you heard of such a thing?
@CoffeeDrinker71
@CoffeeDrinker71 Жыл бұрын
@@jacobsamano9761 You probably have a luthier nearby that could 1) build something for you (partscaster or full custom build) and 2) have them take a look at the neck. If the strings were way off the fretboard, it could mean that there was a variety of issues. Perhaps the bridge wasn't aligned properly, or the neck pocket wasn't aligned with the bridge, or possibly the neck was crooked in the pocket. I know it's defeating to run up against a problem like that. Best advice I can give moving forward, is to just buy parts/kits from the best sources like Warmoth, Musikraft, KNE, Locke, etc. I see a lot of those necks and bodies on Reverb that are not from a reputable source, and while they might look attractive you just never know what you are going to get in the end.

@CoffeeDrinker71 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! The strap hooks...well, I think they were a little larger on the Franky compared to the 5150. For the 5150 most guys grab the size 6 eye hook, but you'll want to double check that. I don't want to steer you wrong. For the drill bit size, I literally just grabbed one barely larger than the pickguard screw that I was using to mount the quarter. It was probably close to a 3/32" sized bit...hope that helps.

Thanks for the video. I’m building out a warmoth guitar and will try to achieve a Wolfgang tone. Sold my Wolfgang regrettably. I’ve presently got a Birdseye neck. Doesn’t have the Wolfgang profile though. It’s a vintage/modern. It is brand new but second hand. It is unfinished/raw. Can I apply the gun stock oil to this neck? Is this what Peavey used on the wolfgangs? I’ve never done any guitar work like this before. Can you please explain any steps I need to take, or precautions that could ruin the neck? Thank you.
@CoffeeDrinker71
@CoffeeDrinker71 Жыл бұрын
Good luck with your project!!! Yes, Peavey used a very similar oil treatment on their necks. Yes, you can apply Tru-Oil directly to the raw neck. Just use it sparingly and wipe away any excess amount immediately afterwards. Don't forget to apply gun stock WAX after the Tru Oil dries 24 hours later! It will make it feel much better. As far as steps are concerned...you can make sure the neck is sanded as smooth as you like beforehand. Maybe take some 600 grit sandpaper and go over the back of the neck first. I actually did that on the Musikraft neck featured in this video. I have another video on my channel where I apply Tru-Oil and Gun Stock Wax to a Warmoth roasted flame maple neck. That might help you also! Cheers!

Great question, I should have clarified in the video... When I ordered the "Franky" neck, it automatically comes with the "aged oil" finish...so technically the Tru-oil type of finish was already applied on this particular neck. But, in general, whenever I start with a truly raw neck, I will apply the Tru-Oil first, and then apply the gunstock wax after the Tru-Oil is fully dried. Thanks for asking!

@@CoffeeDrinker71 Wow thanks man!! Again a very beautiful guitar! I did not think you could spray urethane over an acrylic lacquer though!! It would be amazing if I could do this as well!!

@@Tyler_Hodges Yeah I’ve never had an issue with this particular HOK USC-01 urethane top coat on top of the Duplicolor lacquers. They’ve always behaved very well together. Keep in mind that not all automotive brand lacquers are created equal though. Some of them have “plasticizers” in them to be flexible when sprayed over plastic bumpers and other auto body parts…i.e. certain blacks or clears, trim paint, etc. But these “Perfect Match” style paints have never given me an issue. The only time I’ve had a problem is when I’ve sprayed enamels on top of lacquers (during my first 5150 build). A lot of the common spray cans like Rustoleum and Krylon are enamels…and for me personally, I avoid those at all cost just because of that chance of having a negative reaction.

This is the right way to honor Eddie VS what fender and using the evh tried to do a year ago and charged 2 grand to do it with the unstriped Frankie series for which if Eddie was, still around probably would have said no too and probably made him mad I. Mean when I saw that on KZbin it shocked me whee what you are doing Eddie would not mind because it's keeoing with his vision or what wolfie has done with his signature model which is exactly what Eddie would have wanted which is to say to that young kid or guitar player who wants his tone but not his stripes hey thats okay but you don't need to spend 2 grand to do it you can do it yourself and tell him how to do it himself and what type of body it is the neck but do what you want and never stop experimenting and what is comfortable for you. I am under the impression that a non recessed Floyd is a lot easier to operate, change strings. Am I wrong? I have only had guitars with recessed Floyd's and I hate them.
@CoffeeDrinker71
@CoffeeDrinker71 Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's been my experience as well. Most of my non-recessed Floyds are set to dive only. So they either have the little trem-stopper added in the cavity, or they sit against the body either at the block, or the baseplate. So, when it's blocked like this one is, you don't have to worry about chasing the setup like you do when they float. I totally know what you mean. I purchased a set of specialized wooden blocks to help with this issue on floating trems. They do the job, but can still be very tricky. So yeah...top mounted Floyd's are generally much easier to operate and set up IMHO.
@saltpeter7429

@@CoffeeDrinker71 can you think of any companies making top mounted Floyd equipped guitars? Apologies, I know that's a broad question off the top of one's head. Not that I have the cash right now, but I would love to buy a guitar with what I want all set to go. I love the Jackson radius neck profile, love Maple fretboard, and I like reversed headstock so that I can get lower tunings while using more traditional lighter gauge strings. 10- 46 in D. I had a string through Hagstrom that I was able to tune to D quite well. In my layman's understanding I believe that was because I had moe real estate in regard to the strings length. I'm not into the modern " chugga chugga" low tuned thing that is popular now, I want that early 80's Motley Crue and Obituary capability. I want to make melodic music with a good gut punch low end. Sorry for the Gettysburg address! I just love guitars and all related, good channel, thank you.

@@saltpeter7429 No worries at all man, I totally understand! We share the same passion. Well, there are a few possibilities that come to mind. Kramer makes a few models with the top mounted Floyd..."The 84" for example, or the "Baretta" which has a slanted humbucker. As far as production models are concerned those are the first ones that come to mind. For something like you are describing with a reversed headstock, you'd almost have to go with something custom (either build your own partscaster with custom ordered body and neck) or check out some of the other high-end builders like Chubtone or Luxxtone. Aside from that...the older US Charvels from 2008-2010 era had top mounted Floyds, as well as the next 2 years worth of Japanese Pro-Mod series Charvels. When production shifted to Mexico around 2013 that was the end of the top mounted Floyds from them (on a production model). Hope that helps.
