I know this video has been out there for some time now, but quick question. If you bump out the outer/rightmost blade, won't that leave a gap/ridge of wood that will not be dado'd out? So it's not a flat bottom cut? I hope I explained my question clearly. Thank you
@KRWoodworksАй бұрын
@@MDJTUBE the set is designed for the outer adjustable blade to go out to the point that is beyond 3/4” and still work. I’ve set it out as far as 3/4” without issue. The instructions show how to set it up in detail. Hope that helps and answers you question.

Good video. Please know that you can calibrate these as well. I added 3 marks on my dial blade: "0" (collar flush with saw plate), ".250" (exactly 1/4" using just outer blades), and ".750" (using correct chippers from set). I measure the sheet goods with a caliper, add ~.008" for clearance, and dial the desired width FROM one of the calibration marks (@ .004" per click). Once installed, the cut width is usually dead nuts on and requires no additional adjustment. My set is an early one so marking the non-coated blades was easy with a sharpie. Maybe a paint pen could be used now... idk. It's worth the effort to calibrate folks; no more fooling around to get the correct fit!

What is the exact size of that blade? I purchased a set because of your video and the blade was 8 and an 1/8 too big to work with sawstop. Do you hapen to know the part number?
@KRWoodworks2 ай бұрын
Mine is also 8-1/8 in diameter and it's part number SD608. Does your Dago cartridge not adjust up and down enough? If you don't have the dado cartridge, you'll need to get one. I've got a lot of room to adjust in my saw.

You covered it in a nutshell sir. I would add a fee caveats. Arbor length is important when considering the width of your dados. Especially going past 3/4. Also never back the adjuster hub below flush with the blade. Too far and it comes apart. There’s a spring and a steel ball between the adjuster and the blade. Taken apart the spring and ball can easily get lost. Don’t ask me how I know that.. One other thing, besides the big colorful chart there’s a small owners manual in the kit. The manual had recommendations for which chipper blades to use but the number and sizes are different than the ones in the chart. Use the chart. Its extremely accurate. Oh yeah, the plastic case is cheap crap but better than a cardboard box.
@KRWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
Yup. I've had it for a long time and aware of all that. I have a few of those "don't ask me how I know" things as well. I don't think I've ever done a full 3/4 with a dado stack in 40 years. I always do test cuts regardless. After all these years the case has finally given up so now I have an excuse to make a nice wooden box for it.

Yeah, I was looking at Freud but found my Jet jtas 10 arbor length of just under 1½"-the 5/8" nut was too short. I guess I'll continue using my old Hickory wobble dado.

How long have you owned that dado set, has the dial on the blade ever messed up, how long do they stay Sharp, have you had any kind of issues with that dado set?
@KRWoodworks4 жыл бұрын
I've had it about 15 years, the dial has never messed up or failed, I've yet to have a need to sharpen the teeth, no issues at all. Best dado set I've ever owned and will never own any other.

Is the freud adjustable dado compatible with SawStop safety system ?
@KRWoodworks3 жыл бұрын
Yes. I have a SawStop and all you need is the dado cartridge. The dado set has to be a minimum of 8" in diameter. The saws arbor is shorter in the SawStop than some saws but not by much. I can mount the full stack without issue. The nut just doesn't screw all the away in but it's more than 4 threads. I can send you picture if you like.
@jimgilliam92622 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but, I though Sawstop wouldn’t recommend using a blade that has a “bump” right behind the tooth because it could make it harder for the brake to stop the blade as quick. What is your opinion on this?

Can this work on a dewalt jobsite table saw?
@KRWoodworks4 жыл бұрын
I have no idea. it's made for a 5/8" arbor but since it stacks deeper than a standard dado stack the arbor length on that saw is what to look at. From Freud's web site. "2.Arbor Length- Measure the length of the arbor on your machine and subtract the thickness of the arbor nut from that measurement. If what you have left is at least 1-3/32” then you can cut up to a 3/4” dado with your saw. If you have 1-3/16” or more then you can stack all the components on the arbor at one time. Still keep in mind that you must comply with maximums that the manufacturer of saw has for dadoes"
