Argentina has a total of 13 research bases, 6 of them inhabited year-around with regular touristic visits. There even was a dog breed bred for the continent and the first country to have a native born in there. Quite a few by now actually and Chile followed with it's own Anctarctic babies soon after. Both countries have stretchd close to Anctarctica for quite a long while now, and share ocean currents and weather interactions with it, so we are much more closely involved with it than other country's most abstract imperial-type claim.

The Argentinean-Chilean claim actually comes from the Governorate of Terra Australis. The spanish divided south america in governorates before they established the viceroyalties. These were Tierra Firme, Nueva Castilla, Nueva Toledo, Nueva Andalucía, Nueva Leon and Terra Australis. Terra australis was made up of everything south of the Magellan strait up to the south pole, and everything that might be discovered afterwards, making it the oldest claim of Antartica.

My family came over to Nz to do some whaling as there were higher numbers of whale stock migrating north to south in the Pacific due to over whaling in the north Atlantic, I'm guessing it was the same motive for the norwegians. FYI I am not proud of my ancestors, whales are gentle giants and are our friends.

Various things wrong, the Malvinas were sighted in the Magallanes expedition in 1520 and the french and english tried of forming a colony. Both back up by their claims by diplomatics moves of the spanish and by 1766 there was an spanish governor in the isles. The Spanish garrison from Puerto Soledad moved to Montevideo in 1811 to fight the Buenos Aires insurgent. In 1820 Argentina take the islands and and put a governor in charge. The governor moved his entire family to the island and have the first born in the isles in 1830 and found Puerto Luis. By 1833 the argentines where kick out of the isles. Its not like "they decided to continue the expantion in the patagonia" there is fuking history and wasn't like the english discober it and take it. And another thing, both Chile and Argentina also have other claims of the Antartica. Argentina had the first born in the continent and Chile the second one. In total 11 persons were born in the continent, 8 argentines and 3 chileans. Im not defending any war but you are not mentioning everything.
