My dad was the floor director of the wrestling shows at WRAL in Raleigh in the 70’s. Dusty was a big name then and whenever I was at the station, he’d come over and scoop me up and say “Come on Little Jack “ and take me up to the locker room. On one occasion, it was my birthday (I believe I was 4) and he , Blackjack Mulligan, and Ric Flair all came in and Dusty saw my birthday hat and Picked me up and dug a $20 out of his pocket, as did the other 2. He took me up to the locker room, led the group in a round of Happy Birthday to You, and managed to get me about $300 from all the wrestlers. Such a class act. RIP Dusty

Truly “the natural” that shadow of his father hung over the first born much harder than it did Cody, sadly. But he’ll go down as a competitor definitely deserving of a run. Like piper

Tbh you can't call this family nepotistic given how many talents dusty helped. He gave much more to the business than he took from it.

I think Dusty's work behind the scenes was a big reason so many people in the business support Cody now. Dusty never pulled strings to get his kids on the top of the card and he absolutely could have.

Never watched one of your posts before but coming from a 51 yr old man who stopped watching wrestling not long after the attitude era, you nailed the Rhodes family. Dusty was my favorite since Being a little boy. My Saturday mornings were spent anxiously awaiting for Georgia Championship wrestling to come on WTBS and watch The American Dream vs and then team with Nikita Koloff. I soaked the shoes being broadcast like a sponge and then immediately there after I would proudly wear my cardboard handmade belt of the St Joe Beach Tag team wrestling championship of which I was one half of. It was an amazing childhood and watching this video reminded me of those days and put a smile on my face. Thank you for this video and the intimate and intricate content within. Outstanding work.

Cody leaving WWE was the best thing he could have ever done. And it worked well for him. But in the end AEW would not let him be a World Champion, so he talked to HHH with his plans and it worked Now Hes one of the top guys in the world and is responsible for making wwe more popular than it has been in years. Aew has just gone down Hill since Cody's leaving.

I love that Dusty basically stayed retired and helped with alot of the generation that we are familiar with now. He'd actually take a moment to help ppl with promos or critique their matches. Goldust and Booker T were great then it was kinda reincarnated with Ron Truth Killings.

I'm just finding this video 2 weeks after Cody's title win at Wrestlemania 40! Very well done video. Been a fan of the Rhodes family since childhood. Dusty was my wrestling hero as a kid as I'm old enough to remember his NWA/Crockett run. The legendary matches with Ric Flair, Tully Blanchard, etc. made me a huge fan. To me as a kid, he was a bigger deal than even Hogan. Loved Dustin's run in WCW and loved Dusty's ECW feud with Steve Corino. And watching Cody's progression has been amazing and seeing how he's gone through the various pushes, bad gimmicks, and building his brand around the indies before coming back to WWE is a tale of not giving up on your dreams and that what's meant for you will come your way if you believe and put in the work. Knowing what he went through makes me appreciate his run at the top that much more. Happy to see the Rhodes family get their flowers and respected as one of the all time great wrestling families.

The funny thing about it is the very first time I watched AE W Cody Rhodes came out and he was being booed. When he threw his weight belt into the audience the crowd chanted throw it back so the guy who caught it threw it back in the ring. Cody shook his head and I knew he wasn't long for the company.

In the words of Master Yoda, "The greatest teaching is Failure." Cody Rhodes' failure to win the WWE Undisputed Championship in WrestleMania 39 was actually a lesson he learned. After WM, he went on to have a classic feud with Brock Lesnar which him beating the Beast Incarnate in SummerSlam where Brock ended up raising Cody's hand after a match, finally earned a respect and now Cody is feuding with Judgement Day heading towards to Survivor Series WarGames which was the two rings & two cages Team vs Team match which is the one that created by his late father. It seems Cody Rhodes is now top tier level which give him a brighter path to face Roman Reigns again in WrestleMania 40.

36:02 - VINCE McMAHON did the exact same thing with HARLEY RACE. When RACE was the biggest thing outside the WWF, it threatened his momentum to build his WWF with his soon HULK HOGAN persona ... so he contacted RACE to buy him out from his NWAA contract and walk away from a PPV Main Event Only HARLEY RACE's loyalty to building and keeping wrestling strong in that region, helped make his decision against McMAHON to refuse, that much easier. However, for me, CODY RHODES sold out on AEW and jumps ship on a company he could've helped continue to grow. CODY made it clear he wanted to see competition outside the WWE grow, but he knew when word got out he was working without a contract, that the WWE would immediately contact him because AEW was making waves, and CODY was at the helm of it. And the best way McMAHON could burst that bubble, is to offer CODY RHODES the same thing HARLEY RACE refused ... to urn his back on the new promotion.

I just re-watched his feud with Ric flair and technically he cut the hard times promo before the time most people remember originally he cut the hard times promo shortly after the horsemen broke his leg technically before the horsemen were formerly known as the horsemen and then when he came back officially he cut the hard times promo again and the second time is when most people remember it

I stand by my opinion that Stardust was the best Cody we got prior to his departure. I don't blame him for the shitty booking decisions which made Stardust not be that successful and I really grew to have an extreme dislike for Titus O'Neal for why they kept jobbing Stardust to him when he was lamer than the gobbletygook or the fake Razor Ramon. Stardust was an homage to his brother and he had a dope entrance theme. He should have been booked better.
